While there are plenty of monsters on the fan-favorite series, many would agree that no one is as terrifying as Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) on Netflix's Stranger Things. It's amazing to think he was only introduced in Stranger Things season 4 given the impact he's had on the main characters, from Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) to, of course, Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) whose life is still on the line. While The Mind Flayer and other creatures have made an impression, Vecna has a specific method of finding victims that is truly chilling.

When Stranger Things season 5 premieres, fans expect to see Vecna back and more powerful than ever. Since there is the expectation that there will be a big fight in the Stranger Things series finale and also a happy ending, fans are curious about what's going to happen to Vecna. There are a few interesting theories about what's in store in Stranger Things season 5.

What Do Fans Think Vecna's Stranger Things Season 5 Storyline Will Be?

Jamie Campbell Bower as 001/Henry Creel on Stranger Things

When thinking about Vecna's role in Stranger Things season 5, fans think that they will learn more about the beginning of the Upside Down and also see Eleven defeating Vecna. Redditor @Individual_Glove158 believes that Vecna will have a storyline in Stranger Things season 5 involving The Mind Flayer's origins. The fan wrote:

"We see in Vecna’s backstory that he formed Mind Flayer. I’m pretty sure the creator is stronger than what it created."

There are several fan theories about the Upside Down, and based on what fans know about this eerie place, it does seem possible for Vecna to have created this terrible monster. It's also possible to imagine Eleven ending up in charge. Redditor @Vibes492 wrote:

"Season 5 Theory: If Vecna can control The Upside Down with his powers, Eleven can too. She will become the new head of the hive mind and close The Upside Down for good."

Given the dangerous nature of life in Hawkins at this point, viewers aren't sure that Eleven can kill Vecna and live a happy life afterward. This does seem difficult to imagine, especially if Stranger Things is set in another decade and Eleven has been forming her plan for several years. She knows the evil in Hawkins and has had a lot of time to think about what comes next. While fans don't want anything bad to happen to Eleven, it's hard not to wonder which Stranger Things characters will live and which ones will be Vecna's next victims.

Redditor @ValentinePatch1999 thinks that Eleven will suffer if she's able to defeat Vecna. The fan wrote:

"If she closes the upside down for good, killing Vecna in the process, it’s definitely gonna come at a heavy price like a limb, her powers (again) or maybe even someone she cares about like Mike, Will, or Hop."

In another Reddit thread, Redditor @PastContes believes Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) will help the other characters win against Vecna. Considering everything Will has been through in Stranger Things seasons through 4, it would be logical for the character to decide to be in charge. Will is stronger than other people give him credit for, and he needs a satisfying season 5 ending. The fan wrote, "I’m not entirely sure how it will play out, but I feel like Vecna’s defeat is a given. At least, that’s my understanding, since there’s a supposed ‘happy ending’ in store for us. I think the key to it will be Will."

What Happens To Vecna In Stranger Things Season 4?

Vecna's backstory is explored in Stranger Things season 4 and fans find out that when Vecna was human, he was named Henry Creel. As a young kid, he realized he was psychokinetic and psychic, and he began using his powers for evil. He began living at Hawkins National Lab with Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine), which is where Henry Creel became 001 and met Eleven.

Since Vecna has a background of murdering his family members and also having strong powers that he learned how to use, he became the ultimate villain. He has no remorse or guilt and Vecna decides which victims to torment in a careful, calculated way. He also makes sure to go after people who are experiencing pain, which adds an extra terrifying layer.

In a 2022 interview with GQ, Jamie Campbell Bower said he enjoys playing Vecna because he likes portraying characters who stand out. This is definitely why fans are so fascinated by the Stranger Things villain. The actor said:

"I'm always interested in characters that have depth and something different about them. It's those kinds of characters that I've always been drawn to and that I've always played. And more often than not, in cinema, the bad guy, as it were, is that person."
