While it's true that the Stranger Things season 5 finale needs to wrap up the end of every major character's storyline, there's a particular interest in how Will Byers's character arc will end on the popular Netflix series. Will starts off the series by disappearing into the Upside Down, the creepy part of his hometown of Hawkins, Indiana that is one of the most memorable TV settings. Will spends seasons 1 through 4 of the fan-favorite series as a kind part of his friend group and it's time for him to get more of the spotlight.

While Stranger Things season 5's 2025 premiere date is still fairly far away, fans are having compelling conversations about everything from potential main character deaths to what will happen to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her magical powers. A fan pointed out a plot hole involving Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and if Stranger Things season 5 is going to answer every question that viewers have, then hopefully this will be explained as well.

Stranger Things Season 5 Should Address This Part Of Will's Storyline

Redditor @Foreign_Tourist8309 pointed out a plot hole involving Will Byers in Stranger Things and shared a meme that reads:

"Does anyone find it weird how Will was able to survive in the Upside Down for an entire week... when most people could barely survive a day?"

Since Stranger Things season 5 is definitely going to feature the scary Upside Down location, it would be satisfying to explain why Will lived when others didn't. When fans look back on this storyline, Will was young, innocent, and terrified. While he's had a coming-of-age journey along with the other main characters, he has grown up a lot in the past few seasons and is a different person now than he was back in Stranger Things season 1. He wasn't quite as strong-willed or tough and while fans are happy that he survived, there are still many questions surrounding how such a young kid could get out of such a dangerous situation.

While a fan replied that Will seems to know how to hide when necessary, which could be why he survived the Upside Down for a week, another fan suggested that Vecna might have wanted Will to survive for a unique reason. The fan wrote:

"I think its clear that Vecna had plans for him and he isn't like everyone else. Clearly he's special in some way. So imo that's why he survived for so long."

This is a compelling fan theory that will hopefully be explored in Stranger Things season 5. While fans wonder about Vecna's (Jamie Campbell Bower) storyline, there is a lot that should be explored about Will and Vecna's potential connection. Is there a reason why Will was the one who disappeared in Stranger Things season 1? Will he go missing again or be the one to beat Vecna once and for all?

As is often the case with series finales, the end of Stranger Things has to wrap up a lot of unanswered questions and fans have strong opinions about the show's last episode. It's interesting to think about this plot hole since it's possible Will has powers, like Eleven, that could be explored in Stranger Things season 5. Even if that's not the case, there will still hopefully be one episode that is focused on Will's background.

What Else Could Happen To Will In Stranger Things Season 5?

Eleven and Will in season 4 of Stranger Things

Since Noah Schnapp briefly talked about Stranger Things season 5, fans have been curious about Will Byers's plotline. There will definitely be many scenes of Will and The Party as the final season will definitely explore more of the meaningful friendship between the main characters. Since the story started with Will's disappearance, it would make sense if it ended with Will playing a pivotal role in making sure Hawkins will be safe from Vecna and the other monsters in the Upside Down forever.

If Stranger Things season 5 has some kind of time jump, it would make sense to share Will's plans and dreams for the future. If he's in college, then hopefully fans will find out what he's studying and what he wants to do for work since they've gotten to know him so well since Stranger Things season 1.

In July 2022, Noah Schnapp said in an interview with Variety that the Duffer Brothers will "focus more on Will and build that storyline" in Stranger Things season 5. It sounds like Schnapp wants to learn more about Will's week in the Upside Down, just like fans do. He explained:

"Obviously, we hope for a coming out scene, and I also want to see them address this connection to the Mind Flayer and how that fits into the world. And I’ve always been wondering, why was Will the first victim and the first one captured? I just want to see it all tie in and all work out. So I’m excited to see what happens."
