How Do Fans Feel About The Stranger Things Season 5 Time Jump?

Some fans feel the Stranger Things season 5 time jump is a bad idea because it might not explain important questions that viewers have had since the end of season 4. Redditor @Comfortable-Teach125 started a thread and wrote:

"new video of millie in costume shows that el's hair has grown a lot in season 5. this means that there is at least a year long time jump, if not longer... this would make stranger things 5 set in late 1987 or 1988. i really wonder HOW we're going to skip over that much time. and WHY? is vecna chilling for that long? perhaps they will show a montage of the time passing? are we to assume no significant conversations happened off camera?"

These are all solid points that other fans agreed with in the Reddit thread. Redditor @FwZero questioned how a time jump would explain the state of the Upside Down. If this place is such a threat to Hawkins, is it really possible that everyone just moved on and lived their lives, and now they're scared again? If there is a time jump of quite a few years, then Stranger Things season 5 will definitely have to explain a few things.

If Stranger Things season 5 has a time jump of quite a few years and takes place in the early 1990s, then perhaps Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) has disappeared for a while in order to plot their takeover. If that happens, then Vecna would be stronger than ever, and they might have made the way they pick their victims even more terrifying. Vecna having an intelligent and horrifying master plan would be the only reasonable, logical way to explain why they seemed to disappear for a while.

Other fans want a significant Stranger Things season 5 time jump because of the clothing and hair changes. It's fun to see the cast members dressed as teenagers in the 1980s, and the setting of the show has a fun, nostalgic vibe that will definitely continue in the fifth and final season, no matter what year it's set in. Redditor @Abirdthatsfallen wrote:

"It would be cool to get another big era change. That’s always been one of my favorite parts of Stranger Things ."

Redditor @ineeddramainmylife13 thinks a time jump is logical because Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) needs time to recover. While there are definitely parts of Stranger Things that are unrealistic, it would be a shame if the show didn't take her coma and healing seriously. The fan wrote:

"I also believe it will have flash backs to stuff that was inbetween to fill in those gaps. It also makes sense that Max is in a coma for so long to me because El has to grab her soul from Vecna’s mind and return it to her body if she’s to wake up."

What Time Period Should Stranger Things Season 5 Take Place In?

Will, Mike and Jonathan in Stranger Things

While everyone has their own opinion on what time period Stranger Things season 5 should be in, it would make sense to have a time jump of one year. This would feel just long enough but wouldn't cause problems in the narrative and would still explain why the cast members look older than they did in the amazing season 4 finale.

Since Stranger Things season 4 was set in 1986, then Stranger Things season 5 should take place in 1987. Even though some fans hope for a longer time jump, this would satisfy everyone since it would be the best of both worlds. As fans have pointed out, it would give the show enough time to have Max Mayfield slowly getting back to her life after a long and tough recovery. It would also give The Party a chance to get ready for what is sure to be an epic fight against Vecna.
