This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season 4

Everyone's favorite fictional metalhead, Eddie Munson, has some iconic lines in Stranger Things season 4. Played to perfection by newcomer Joseph Quinn, Eddie is introduced early in the season as Hawkin High's resident "freak" metalhead and leader of the D&D group Hellfire Club. A lovable outcast with a devil-may-care attitude and flair for the dramatics, Eddie won the respect of D&D club members Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), as well as viewers' hearts.

With his shaggy haircut, chunky rings, and gothic tats, Eddie showed that appearances can be deceiving. He became a loyal friend to head cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien) and a role model to the kids. Befriending Steve (Joe Keery), Robin (Maya Hawke), and Nancy (Natalia Dyer), he became a staple in the gang and was there for them when they needed him most. And when he died, fans genuinely grieved his character. Because nobody is quite like Eddie, as these quotes prove.

Causing A Scene In The Cafeteria

Eddie is introduced to viewers reading a Newsweek article about the dangers of D&D in a mock-concerned voice. Earning laughter from his table, Eddie states, "We're the freaks because we like to play a fantasy game," before climbing onto the table and launching into an impassioned speech about how ridiculous and frustrating high school can be. Drawing eyes from everyone in the cafeteria, Eddie talks about double standards, targeting the band, science, and party cliques, before landing at the basketball squad.

His comparison to basketball as "a game where you toss balls into laundry baskets," leads to an altercation with Season 4's worst character, athlete Jason Carver (Mason Dye), in which Eddie pulls a face at Jason and Jason calls him a "prick." As Eddie, pleased with himself, returns to his seat, he finishes his speech with the powerful words:

It's forced conforming. That's what's killing the kids.

Looking Towards The Future

Shortly after this drama, Mike and Dustin deliver Eddie the news that Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) won't be attending Hellfire that evening because of his basketball game. Eddie, clearly annoyed, imparts the importance of his D&D campaign to the boys, claiming the future of Hellfire lies in their hands.

Looking around the table, he explains some members will be graduating soon, including him, if he's lucky. Eddie isn't very good at school (probably too busy with his drug-dealing business and band Corroded Coffin), but this year he is dead set on leaving Hawkins High for good. "I'm gonna walk that stage next month, I'm gonna look Principal Higgins dead in the eye, I'm gonna flip him the bird, I'm gonna snatch that diploma, and I'm gonna run like hell outta here," he says, before uttering the words that will come back to haunt viewers later:

This year's different. This year is my year.

Defending Iron Maiden

At the beginning of Season 4 Vol. 2, Nancy is possessed by Vecna and begins having dark visions of Hawkins. Meanwhile, the gang attempt to save her Max-style by using Vecna's weakness against him. Rifling through Eddie's cassette tapes, Robin is frantic when she tells him, "Madonna, Blondie, Bowie, Beatles? Music! We need music!"

Of course, this doesn't sit well with metalhead Eddie, who snatches the Iron Maiden cassette from her hand and yells:

THIS IS MUSIC!!!

Quinn's delivery of this line is hilarious, but what's funnier is Dustin's apparent amnesia of the event, as he tells Mr. Munson (Joel Stoffer) following Eddie's death, "I never even saw him get mad."

Remembering Chrissy

In the first episode of Season 4, Eddie sells drugs to head cheerleader Chrissy to help her overcome her disturbing visions. The two meet in the woods and hit it off immediately, with Eddie reassuring Chrissy and Chrissy confessing she had the wrong impression of him. Despite their differences and Chrissy's boyfriend, Jason, their chemistry is strong, but their time together is cut short when Vecna later kills Chrissy right before Eddie's eyes.

In the season finale, Eddie and Dustin, together in the Upside Down, prepare for the "most metal concert in the history of the world," phase three of the gang's plan to bait Vecna. As Dustin cranks up the amp, ready for a legendary performance of Metallica's "Master of Puppets," Eddie pulls the guitar pick from his neck and sweetly declares:

Chrissy, this is for you.

Dying A Hero

And now for the most heartbreaking moment in all of Season 4: Eddie's death. After successfully luring the demobats with his guitar, Eddie and Dustin take refuge in Eddie's trailer. Unfortunately, the demobats are clever creatures and make their way into the air vents, overpowering the two of them. Eddie realises they must escape, so sends Dustin climbing up the bedsheet rope to the real world. However, when it comes to him climbing the rope, he has a change of heart.

Instead of retreating to safety as he always does, Eddie decides to stay in the Upside Down to fight the demobats and buy his friends some more time. And although he is successful in his mission, Eddie is mauled by the demobats and dies a hero; his heartbreaking parting words to Dustin being:

I didn't run away this time, right?
