When Joseph Quinn was meeting with the Duffer brothers to discuss the role of Eddie Munson, he knew next to nothing about how this new Stranger Things character would meet his demise at the end of season four. Now, Quinn is ready to talk about his character's fate and the response he's received from fans.

In what is arguably one of the fan's most favorite scenes of Stranger Things season 4, Eddie gets his very own music video in the Upside Down while trying to distract the "demo-bats." He stands on top of his trailer and shreds Metallica's "Master of Puppets" on his V-shaped guitar. Many fans agree that this scene perfectly encapsulates who Eddie Munson is as a person and makes the season finale all that much more exciting.

Now, following the release of volume two, Quinn opened up about his experience on the show during an interview with the Los Angeles Times, discussing what it was like to die a hero's death. "I remember Skyping with the brothers before I signed on, and they weren't giving away very much," Quinn said of his knowledge of Eddie's fate in the Stranger Things season 4 finale. "They sent me a couple emails asking if I played guitar and I said yes I did. Then they sent the script over and I kind of imploded and went to go buy a guitar as soon as I could and started practicing." Quinn said of the musical scene."It's insane. It's doing so many things. I think this is the only world in which something like that can happen and it doesn't feel like a pastiche. It doesn't feel forced. And hilariously, it doesn't feel melodramatic. It just feels right. And more than anything, it just feels fun. It's that energy through that whole kind of ridiculous sequence that brings all of these storylines together. That crescendo was just so inventive and ultimately so entertaining."

While Quinn knew Eddie's end was coming, he was aware that he had to brace himself for the fans' reactions. "I've been texting the Duffers intermittently during the hiatus period and yeah, we're bracing ourselves," he said of the Stranger Things season 4 volume two arrival. "There's a beginning, middle and end to every character's arc and I feel incredibly touched by the reception that Eddie's gotten, how inviting they've been...It's humbling and something I never expected to feel."

Aside from the love Quinn's character received from Stranger Things fans, Quinn discussed his love for the show prior to his casting. Like many Netflix subscribers, he was a fan of the series and never dreamed he would be part of it one day. "I was, like everyone, completely charmed by it," he said. "It was very surreal to be asked to participate in it. I think every actor can kind of relate to that email in your inbox that feels totally insurmountable and unlikely. Like it's never going to happen. I had no expectations to hear anything back when I sent the tape off. Then they asked me to do another one. And I sent another tape off, and I got the offer. It's still baffling me today that I got asked to come and have this most surreal ride of my life in a brilliant TV show."

Even though Eddie is no longer with the Hawkins gang, the Duffer brothers have announced that they will begin writing Stranger Things season five later this summer, with the release year of 2024 in mind.

Stranger Things season four is now streaming on Netflix.
