Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's release in March came and went surprisingly quickly. It may not have been as impactful as a main series Final Fantasy release, but it undoubtedly claimed a fanbase and a cult following at that. Those fans are hungry for more of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, with the Trials of the Dragon King and other expansions announced prior to launch. Square Enix is now ready to share when Trials of the Dragon King will launch.

Trials of the Dragon King, the first expansion for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, will officially launch on July 20, according to a new announcement from Square Enix. Specific details regarding the content included in Trials of the Dragon King have yet to be provided, but a general overview described it as including new jobs, weapons, accessories, as well as new story content and areas to explore. More information will be provided in the weeks to come.

Square Enix did share a brief teaser trailer to coincide with the announcement of the Trials of the Dragon King expansion's release date. The trailer focuses on two seeming encounters, one with the Warrior of Light and another with the King of Dragons, Bahamut. There's even a brief glimpse of fast-paced gameplay with the main party facing off against both opponents. It's, of course, just a glimpse at everything that awaits players in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's new DLC.

The Trials of the Dragon King DLC is, of course, a direct reference to the original Final Fantasy. That's what Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is based on, after all. In the NES JRPG, players have to prove their courage by retrieving the Rat's Tail from the Castle of Ordeal. This story element was notably absent from the Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, instead reserved for DLC.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin fans have more DLC to look forward to following the release of the Trials of the Dragon King, of course. The Trials of the Dragon King is just the first piece of DLC included in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's $30 Season Pass. Wanderer of the Rift and Different Future are the names of future DLC releases.

What's clear is that Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's story isn't over yet. The base game was only the beginning. At least three more substantial DLC releases will be coming soon, starting with the Trials of the Dragon King on July 20.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
