Although some bosses in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin may come as a surprise, players have a pretty good idea that they'll be battling against the iconic four fiends from the start. As the game progresses Jack and his crew must level up and eventually prove themselves against all four of the fiends in order to attempt to restore the light. The first main obstacle in that path will be Tiamat.

Players should have plenty of early and mid-game combat experience from defeating Bikke, the fused Elemental, and all of the other bosses that precede Tiamat, but this fight is the most difficult challenge yet once it arrives. Tiamat is an incredibly powerful foe, but he's not invincible. The boss has weaknesses and a pattern just like all of the enemies in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, which means that players who take the time to prepare and practice should be able to make it through to the other side.

Just like every other boss after the game's tutorial levels, Tiamat has two phases. As an overall strategy, players will probably want to pair a magic Job with a melee Job that gives them some extra mobility or buffs. Surviving this fight will require a combination of carefully placed offensives and a whole lot of dodging. Players who have unlocked some Advanced Classes should pick a pairing that aligns with their playstyles, but try to prioritize at least one Job that allows for use of blizzard magic - a major weakness of Tiamat's.

Stranger of Paradise Tiamat Fight Guide

Tiamat Phase 1 Guide

  • Use evade to dodge the tornadoes
  • Dodge the leap attacks
  • Dodge the swirl attack
  • Sever Tiamat's necks through consistent focused attacks and use abilities and Lightbringer to lower her max break gauge
  • Keep some distance and using blizzard (if possible) to deal damage without getting too close
  • Focus on neck slashing attacks when in melee

Tiamat Phase 2 Guide

  • Tiamat gains a very powerful Regeneration ability in phase two. Players need to focus on lowering her break guage to zero, rather than her health. Do this with additional blizzard attacks, Resonance, Lightbringer, and aggresive melee abilities if Tiamat gets staggered
  • Dodge the incoming attacks and use Soul Shield when timing allows
  • The massive beam attack (Tri-disaster) cannot be blocked and can be a one-shot kill, so be sure to run and dodge and get behind cover if possible when this she enters the animation for this massive attack

This can be a pretty frustrating fight thanks to the regen ability during phase two, so the main thing is to remain patient. Players need to really master their responses to each of the different incoming attacks and chip away at the Break Gauge with special abilities and help from Resonance. Players who feel truly gridlocked might need to consider entering some previous missions to level up their Jobs or find some better weapons and gear.
