The Refined Pick is the only tool in Stranded Deep that can be used to extract rocks and clay from their nodes. This makes the Refined Pick quite a useful item, and players should definitely plan to craft one when the opportunity arises. Fortunately, it is fairly simple to create a Refined Pick in Stranded Deep, and this guide is here to walk players through the process.
Stranded Deep: How to Make a Refined Pick
Players that are interested in creating a Refined Pick should put their preliminary efforts toward reaching Craftsmanship Level 3. The fastest way to reach that level is to craft crude spears, which are unlocked at Craftsmanship Level 1 and require a single stick. Indeed, players that repeatedly craft this weapon will quickly advance their Craftsmanship and hit Level 3 in a matter of minutes.
Upon reaching Craftsmanship Level 3, players will unlock several recipes, two of which are relevant to this guide. The first of those recipes allows players to create the Refined Pickaxe by combining two leather, one stick, and two stone tools. The second allows players to create a Tanning Rack in Stranded Deep, which is used to craft the leather that is required for the creation of the Refined Pickaxe.
Players are thus advised to build a Tanning Rack at this point in the process. To do this, fans should obtain four sticks and four lashings, which are crafted from fibrous leaves in Stranded Deep, and then select the Tanning Rack from the structures tab of the crafting menu.
Once a Tanning Rack has been established, players should set their sights on obtaining some rawhide. The easiest way to get this material is to skin a passive boar with a refined knife, though fans that are feeling bold can instead try to extract rawhide from hogs or great white sharks in Stranded Deep. Regardless of the source that a player uses for collecting rawhide, they should stand near their Tanning Racks when some of the material has been obtained and select leather from the quick craft radial menu.
After a player has followed these steps in order to create two pieces of leather, they should make sure that they also have one stick and two stone tools in their inventory. For the sake of full clarity, sticks can be found on the ground or harvested from trees, and stone tools are made from rocks that also appear on the ground. As soon as all of these Stranded Deep items have been collected, players can access the tools tab of the crafting menu and transform them into a Refined Pick.
