Ubisoft reveals a new intellectual property named Steep, a game that allows players to record stunts and crashes in a winter sport environment.

As the Ubisoft Press Conference came to a close, the company had one more unannounced IP up its figurative sleeve: Steep. It's certainly a curious title to end the E3 2016 conference on, as the snowy action-sport title followed in the steps of action-packed games like For Honor, The Division, and Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

In Steep, players will take a break from violent combat and compete to outdo each other in the world extreme sports, and can also group together to explore the landscape and generally crash around the mountainside.

Steep will feature an open world environment based in both the Swiss Alp and Alaska, where players will be able to navigate around the map via snowboard, skiis, wingsuit, or even by paraglider. Players can switch between these methods of transportation on the fly, and the open world map will reportedly contain hundreds of stunt-ready areas to discover. The map will be populated by plenty of other players on the same mountain, though any gamer will have the option to turn off collisions with other players, which is a wise move made to mitigate game-ruining trolls.

Players will be able to take a look back at all of their stunts and crashes through a video interface replay mode, and can even activate a slow motion camera or simply rewind actions to see the glorious landings and the brutal wipeouts all over again. Ubisoft wants to bring a strong focus to social media with the game, and actively encourages players to record game clips and post them online through the in-game interface.

The amount of harsh crashes in Steep could make the game a surprise hit, not unlike what Skate became when it released back in 2007. Players will also be able to dare their finds to try out custom lines, to make it easier to compare who really is the best stuntman once and for all.

The game is being produced by Ubisoft Annecy, a studio which recently completed some work on The Division. It'll be interested to see if a winter sport based title can make any noticable dent in the competitive holiday window this year.

We'll keep you posted as more information about Steep makes it way down the metaphorical mountain. Ubisoft has stated it will show off more of the game tomorrow at the Ubisoft Masterclass, which will be a streamed event.

Steep is slated to arrive this December for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
