It's been some time since new details were shared regarding Spiders Games' upcoming action-RPG Steelrising. The follow-up to GreedFall was originally announced in mid-July 2020, but it took over a year for a release window of June 2022 to finally be announced. Unfortunately, Spiders has now confirmed that Steelrising won't meet that June release window and has received a short delay. Fans of Spiders' games can now expect Steelrising to arrive on September 22, a delay of around three months.

The release date announcement for Steelrising was shared via a newly released gameplay video from Spiders. The video, which was exclusively shared by Game Informer, delves into Steelrising's various combat and progression mechanics. In Steelrising, players take on the role of an automaton in an alternate history where steampunk-like robots were widely used during the Louis XVI era of France. The name of the player's robot is Aegis, and she can be robustly customized to fit each player's favored style of combat.

Aegis' customization will feature a similar range of choices as compared to other action RPGs. That includes a full suite of weapons and equipment, to start. The trailer shows defensive weapons like Armored Fans which can be used as a shield, a ranged Shield Musket, the mid-range Gribeauval Halberd, magic-based Fire Chain, and fast-paced melee Nemesis Claws. Armor will also provide unique attribute boosts, including improving defense, loot multipliers, or resistances.

As for the actual playing of Steelrising, the gameplay shown in the trailer reveals that it's heavily influenced by the Dark Souls franchise but also unique to itself. Aegis moves much faster than Elden Ring's Tarnished, for example, but is still in extreme danger of quickly dying. Aegis can also use tools to glide or tether for quick traversal. Otherwise, Steelrising players will be mixing offensive and defensive maneuvers to gain the upper hand in combat, whether it's against standard enemies or named bosses.

Steelrising is also confirmed to trend more toward a linear experience than an open world. There will be branching paths, as well as plenty of hidden routes, but players won't be freely exploring open environments or accessing endgame areas as they please.

The delay likely means more Steelrising news will have to wait until later this year as Spiders continues to work on and polish its action RPG. Don't be surprised to hear more about Steelrising closer to June when the Summer Game Fest and other summer events are held.

Steelrising releases September 22 on PC, PS5, and Xbox One.
