During yesterday's Nacon Connect digital event, Spiders' upcoming Souls-like title, Steelrising, made an appearance with a new gameplay trailer. As Steelrising's launch date inches ever so closer, the new trailer is set to make players excited to face the immeasurable size of the robotic monstrosities that occupy the streets of Paris.

Spiders' latest title focuses on an alternate reality of Paris in the year 1789. The French Revolution has been suppressed by King Louis and his merciless army of automatons maintains an iron fist over the city. As a female robot named Aegis, players are tasked with single-handedly standing up to the king's army and freeing Paris from his reign of terror.

The newest trailer focuses on the grim setting of Paris while showing off its Souls-like gameplay. As Aegis, players will travel the dark streets of Paris using unique movement capabilities such as a grappling hook and a dash mechanism to jump over obstacles. When it comes to battling the mad King Louis' formidable automatons, players can expect the combat to be fast-paced and merciless as foes will send players back to the nearest checkpoint in a matter of seconds. The finale of the trailer focuses on a flurry of potential bosses, as Steelrising will certainly make it challenging to free Paris by throwing in larger grotesque automatons who will protect the king at any cost.

As seen in the gameplay trailer, Aegis is no slouch when it comes to handling insurmountable foes since she is as graceful as she is deadly. The full game is set to launch in September, and for fans eager to jump in as soon as possible, preordering the game will grant access to the closed beta set to commence in August.

There's a lot of hype surrounding Steelrising and rightfully so. Developer Spiders has been known to create titles that have initially flown under the radar only to gain more recognition as time goes on with Greedfall being the perfect example. With their next title being set in a unique alternate version of the French Revolution and blending in the painfully rewarding Souls-like gameplay loop, Spiders may very well be on its way to make an instant hit.

While the newest trailer is sure to get players hyped, the trailer does showcase a less than stellar technical state. With the launch rapidly approaching, time will tell if Spiders can harmonize both gameplay and technical state for Steelrising.

Steelrising releases September 8 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
