State of Play events is where Sony lets gamers know what they can expect from PlayStation soon. The most recent event was held on February 23, and there was plenty of PS5 and PS VR2 games revealed. The wide variety of games illustrated that there will be something for all gamers, regardless of what genre they value. Whether intentional or not, there was also a big focus on games with supernatural themes.

Some of the PlayStation games are titles players are familiar with, including Resident Evil 4, Destiny 2: Lightfall, and Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections. Other titles are new, including the strange game Humanity. For gamers who have a love for games with fantastical elements, PlayStation seems to be the best platform in 2023.

Enhance Presents Humanity

Humanity PS5 Game

One of the most interesting games shown at February's State of Play is Humanity, developed by Enhance, the same team behind the now-ported on PS VR2 Tetris Effect. The puzzle game appears to feature gameplay similar to what is available in Lemmings. According to the trailer, it appears that the player wakes up as a glowing dog, and they are tasked with directing humanity across intricate puzzles. In addition to having puzzle-based gameplay, there appears to be quite an existential narrative attached to the game as well. There are brief glimpses of the "others," suggesting that there may be forces that oppose humanity and that players will have to work against.

As one would expect from the developers behind Tetris Effect, there are also plenty of psychedelic, jaw-dropping visuals that make great use of light and color. Players will also get to flex their creativity with Humanity, as there is the option to create one's one levels and share them with other players. The upcoming game will have optional PSVR and PS VR2 modes, and it is scheduled to release in May 2023.

It is already known that a remake of Resident Evil 4 is on the way, and trailers thus far have been stunning. Resident Evil's Leon Kennedy will be back, and the Las Plagas virus poses a problem once again. Although several remasters of RE 4 have been released over the years, the upcoming remake promises to be the most immersive take on the classic horror yet, featuring cutting-edge visuals and audio. The latest trailer revealed that gamers can also expect the upcoming game to feature a Mercenaries mode.

This mode has been quite popular in the past, as it gives players a chance to test their skills against the many supernatural monsters of the game. Gamers are pitted against waves of enemies, and they must try and kill as many as possible before the timer runs out. The Resident Evil 4 remake is scheduled to release on March 24 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X/S.

VR Gamers Can Look Forward to The Foglands

The PS VR2 recently launched, and it already has plenty of games for virtual reality newcomers to experiment with. It appears that the headset still has a busy schedule ahead, as Sony has announced that there are over 100 games in development for the PS VR2. One of those games is The Foglands, which was shown during the latest State of Play. It is a rogue-like with an interesting art style and plenty of monsters to kill. Players are tasked with exploring the Fog to discover what lurks within it. To defend themselves will have to make use of guns or even items lying around. If that fails, stealth is always an option.

The State of Play could be seen as quite underwhelming to some, as there weren't many big AAA titles shown. However, it did reveal a lot about the PS VR2's future, and it also gave the spotlight to a few smaller titles that also deserve attention. For gamers who are looking for a bit of magic, it seems like Sony's calendar in 2023 will be satisfying.
