Yet, players might also learn a few truths that they are none too happy about and may decide to abandon the United Colonies for a little bit of bad.

7 The Founding Of New Atlantis

Starfield New Atlantis

The founding of the United Colonies started just after 2156 when the first humans colonized the Alpha Centauri system. This system was the founding of New Atlantis in 2159, and these humans brought a colony to New Atlantis on Jemison in 2160. This became the official capital of the United Colonies in 2161, where development on the MAST building would become the centerpiece of New Atlantis.

Not only was New Atlantis the central point of the United Colonies' creation, but it was also the heart of the Settled Systems. New Atlantis is the largest city in Starfield, and for good reason. Players can find an abundance of desires on New Atlantis, all thanks to the founding of the grand city centuries ago.

6 Starting The Narion War

Starfield - the planet Cruth in the Narion System

There were citizens held to no government on the planet Deepala in the Narion system around 2194. These citizens objected to the fact that the United Colonies invaded with a star station called The Clinic which orbited this planet. When the United Colonies refused to leave the system, the people of Narion voted to join the Freestar Collective, thus being forced to send their military to the Narion system to start peace talks with the United Colonies.

Matters only worsened, and the military force of the Freestar Collective was met with the United Colonies’ military fleet. This started the Narion War in 2196, which lasted until 2216 with the defeat of the Freestar Collective. Yet, this was a damaging move, and the United Colonies citizens objected to these aggressive tactics, so the Treaty of Narion was crafted to end hostilities and give back Narion. Both governments agreed to hold three-star systems.

5 The Use Of Terramorphs

During the Colony War, the United Colonies investigated science to enhance their warfare. This science was given the title of the UC Xenowarfare Division which sought to weaponize alien lifeforms in 2306. The use of Xenowarfare was a violent addition to the Colony War, and the United Colonies used Terramorphs to try and wipe out their enemies.

However, Terramorphs could not be contained, and this extreme threat was a grave danger for civilized areas due to the aggressive nature of the Terramorphs, and their ability to create utter chaos. The United Colonies’ use of Terramorphs was inhumane, and they even shot themselves in the foot thanks to the Londinion incident, in which they were forced to destroy one of their own colonies.

4 Igniting The Colony War

After the Treaty of Narion, tensions between the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective were as thin as ever. That was until Freestar decided to colonize the Lunara system. The United Colonies decided to respond with violence, and they started the Colony War by sending a fleet to Lunara to kill the colonists.

Instead of sticking to peace, the authoritarian government of the United Colonies resorted to violence and started a war with the Freestar Collective that would ravish the galaxy, and take the lives of countless people. The Colony War also brought to life some of the crimes of their Fleet Admirals.

3 The Terrors Of Vae Victus

Vae Victus was a Fleet Admiral for the United Colonies, whose real name was Francois Sanon. This leader was respected and feared, especially during the Colony War. Vae Victus did what he believed was right for the United Colonies, and did not care who he had to kill to obtain the true protection of the systems under his command.

As part of the Armistice, it was agreed that Vae Victus would be put on trial for his war crimes. After being found guilty, Vae Victus was sentenced to death. Yet, the United Colonies may have officially declared Francois Sanon executed, but his secret imprisonment in Subsection Seven tells another story.

2 Control Of The Sol System

If players are curious as to who owns the rights to the founding planet of humanity, they can find that privilege in the hands of the United Colonies. The Sol System may be abandoned in some regard, but the United Colonies protect it as if it were of vital importance and history, despite the fact that Earth is uninhabitable, and discarded as a distant relic.

Players can find the United Colonies across the Sol System, including vital locations like Mars. The Control of the Sol System may not seem that impressive due to the inhospitable nature of the system, but it’s an origin point for human life and should remain treasured.

1 UC Citizenship

One is not born as a United Colonies Citizen. If players want to become UC Citizens in Starfield, then they need to work through government services. Depending on their skills and their success through a multitude of tests, those who want to become a UC Citizen can do so in a matter of years, and thus be granted the title of citizen so that they can purchase a home in the capital of New Atlantis.

Earning citizenship is no easy task, and in a growing star system, it’s no wonder that not many are interested in becoming a citizen. Each government branch grants a different method of citizenship, and joining the military will present the fastest way to join as a citizen.

Starfield is out now on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
