Given the sparse variety of heavy weapons in Starfield, collecting unique weapons is a guaranteed way for players to get their hands on some extremely rare weapons. Overall, heavy weapons in general are quite powerful, and with the added weapon effects that the unique weapons often come with, there is some insanely good loot in Starfield that players won’t want to miss.

An important thing to note about heavy weapons that shoot explosive projectiles is that they can benefit from both the heavy weapons and explosives-related skills in Starfield. So, with a little investment, any weapons that fit this description can output ridiculously high damage. However, most of the unique heavy weapons in Starfield are strong enough without needing any investment whatsoever.

Poisonstorm

As a laser weapon, the Poisonstorm is an incredibly accurate gun. Because of its high fire rate, Poison utility damage, and superior accuracy that all result in insanely high damage output, the Poisonstorm is arguably one of the strongest weapons in Starfield. Like any weapon in Starfield with great status effect utility, players can get plenty of use out of this weapon by giving it to their companions to provide unmatched support.

Reckless Bombardment

Unlike the other grenade launchers among the unique heavy weapons in Starfield, the Reckless Bombardment features a magazine-fed reload instead of a slow, single projectile reload. Another advantage this weapon has over the other unique grenade launcher heavy weapons is that the weapon effect on the Reckless Bombardment seemingly scales with the player’s damage. This means that players who invest in both the heavy and explosives skills can see exponential returns on this weapon’s damage output. For these reasons, this weapon is more viable than the Shattered Shock and the Ashta Tamer, at least after players invest in the related skills for these weapons.

X-989 Microgun

This weapon is truly a powerhouse that competes with the Poisonstorm as one of the best weapons in the game. The base weapon of the X-989 Microgun is already a powerful gun, so mixing in three of Starfield’s unique weapon effects means that this weapon shreds anything in its path. Although this weapon’s increased damage against Aliens is quite situational compared to other more universal damage modifiers, this weapon is still extremely strong against any target within its range.

Starfield Unique Heavy Weapon N67 Smartgun

N67 Smartgun

Between the weapon effect and the attachment on this weapon that provide stacking armor-piercing capabilities, this weapon is incredibly strong. The N67 Smartgun can be found very early on in a location that Starfield’s main story will take players to, so anyone who can purchase this expensive weapon and the ammo to use it will make short work of their enemies. However, the one downside to the base weapon of the N67 Smartgun is that its poor accuracy means that it’s only useful at a short range.

B-Tier

Ashta Tamer / Shattered Shock

The Ashta Tamer and the Shattered Shock unique heavy weapons might sound quite different based on their weapon effects, but they both end up having extremely identical damage outputs. This is mainly because they both utilize the same base weapon, which is the Bridger grenade launcher. While these explosive heavy weapons can benefit from double-dipping in the explosives and heavy weapons skills, so can the Reckless Bombardment weapon, which arguably outperforms both of these weapons.

Starfield Unique Heavy Weapon Heller's Cutter

Heller’s Cutter

Even with Heller’s Cutter’s increased damage against robots, its overall damage is extremely underwhelming. Not to mention, all cutters have an extremely limited range. Collectible enthusiasts who want a new skin for their cutter might appreciate this weapon; however, any player looking for a good short-range weapon would find better use from one of Starfield's unique shotguns or melee weapons.
