Highlights

  • Starfield is an RPG in space all about exploration. In true Bethesda fashion, there's plenty of loot to be discovered, too.
  • Cargo space is an important feature to consider when purchasing a ship in Starfield . Ships with more cargo space are ideal for storing resources and smuggling contraband.
  • There are multiple ship options in Starfield , which can be purchased from almost every Ship Technician at major settlements and ports.

Starfield is the newest IP from Bethesda, it's an RPG that allows players to explore space and land on various solar systems that each have their own interesting planets. To travel to these various planets across the galaxy aspiring captains must first have a decent ship that can take them there. Be it building their own or purchasing a new one, there is a wide variety of spaceships to choose between.

Starfield: 7 Things You Should Always Have In Your Inventory

From Digipicks to bullets, there are plenty of things that players are going to want to keep in their inventory at all times in Starfield.

An essential feature that players should be paying attention to when purchasing a new ship is how much Cargo Space it has. This is likely where they will be storing most resources they find when exploring, or when they hope to smuggle contraband to a planet that prohibits it. These are by far the best ships with the most cargo space in Starfield.

It would appear that the locations of ships being purchased from vendors in Starfield are randomized for each run of the game. Therefore, the locations that are mentioned in this article may not be the same for other players.

Updated on January 7, 2024 by Jake Fillery: Starfield features a vast amount of ships, all ranging from design, price, weapon capabilities, and cargo hold. As some players might know, cargo hold is an important stat to keep note of in Starfield, as it determines the carrying capacity of the ship, and what players can hold as loot before they need to unload it. With that in mind, it's a good time to look at the best ships in Starfield with the best cargo holds so that players will never have to worry about leaving their precious loot behind, even if that may come at the cost of a curious pirate looking for a sweet haul.

10 Econohaul 2

2,810 Cargo Space

econhaul 2 ship

Whilst the Econohaul 2 doesn't seem to have the biggest cargo in Starfield out of all the available ships, it definitely has the largest cargo capacity for a Class A ship. For those unfamiliar, Class A will be the default class of ships until players invest in the Tech skill tree, but that takes time and a lot of Credits.

The Econohaul 2 doesn't have that worry, and players can pick it up at nearly every Ship Service Technician in Alpha Centauri, Cheyenne, and Sol star systems for a relatively low price of 209,700 Credits. Whilst that may seem alarming to new players, Credits are not hard to earn, and most Class B/C ships are more expensive but better.

9 Bireme 2

3,680 Cargo Space

The Bireme II in Starfield

The Bireme II may be the lowest on the list, but even here it is still a worthwhile investment for just about anyone. This ship comes with a total of 3680 cargo space that players can fill up during their adventures.

Besides the impressive cargo, this ship also has enough room for five crew members as long as the player has the needed perk for it. This vessel is most likely found at the Deimos Shipyard, although the ships in stock are entirely randomized, so it might be worth looking for it elsewhere as well.

8 Renegade

3,970 Cargo Space

Starfield-Renegade

Alternatively, a player may instead wish to wait until they find the Renegade. This flying freighter has space for both the five original companions of Starfield and an extra space to recruit one of the other viable crew members that can be found across the universe.

On top of the crew seats and incredible weaponry, players have 3970 storage space in total, giving them a slight boost in space from the Bireme II while also permitting travel to further systems. The Renegade can usually be found at the Ship Services Technician on Neon.

7 Va'ruun Prophecy 2

4,120 Cargo Space

Va'ruun Prophecy 2

A Class C ship designed specifically for versatile missions across the galaxy, this Va'ruun vessel exists to explore, patrol, and defend itself against threats to the ship or those who disrespect the Great Serpent.

Sadly, the Va'ruun Prophecy 2 is a ship that can only be acquired through piracy, as House Va'ruun doesn't exactly sell their ships, so keep an eye out for these religious zealots causing trouble in the galaxy to acquire this rare find without the need of spending thousands of Credits or more.

6 Vanquisher

4,120 Cargo Space

The Vanquisher in Starfield

While the Vanquisher may have little in the way of weaponry, it's still a phenomenal ship for anyone looking for a vessel with plenty of space for their things. The Vanquisher has a total storage mass of 4120, which means it has plenty of room for resources collected on planets, or the spare spacesuits earned from defeating pirates that players still haven't gotten around to selling.

Players might need to break the bank if they are going to buy the most expensive ships in Starfield. Yet, are they worth the asking price?

Luckily, it's also fit for long-distance space travel as the player can easily fly from one solar system to another with a total of twenty-one light years, alongside the hardy defenses that will keep it floating through space.

5 Autobahn

4,130 Cargo Space

The Autobahn in Starfield

This medium-sized vessel may surprise most with how much junk and resources it can carry. The Autobahn has a total cargo mass of 4130, meaning a player is largely unlikely to run out of space when exploring the vast universe.

Unfortunately, unlike the other ships mentioned here, the Autobahn can only carry a maximum of two crew members. This means that players will have to decide who their most favored crew members are, which can be a tough one. The Autobahn can be purchased from the Ship Services Technician on Cydonia.

4 Vanquisher 2

4,140 Cargo Space

Starfield Vanquisher II

As an upgraded version of the Vanquisher, this ship has everything the original did but at an upgraded capacity. Firstly, it can travel a whole three light years further than the original, it has a better shield to keep the player's goods protected and also more space, so they can stock up on even more resources.

Fitted with a Grade C Reactor like its predecessor, it's still able to carry a total cargo mass of 4140 while still having the mobility and weaponry to outsmart or outgun any opposing fleet.

3 Venture 2

4,270 Cargo Space

The Venture II in Starfield

One of the greatest ships in the game is introduced just by stepping foot into New Atlantis. Players won't be able to afford the Venture II when they first visit the city, but it will certainly be a vessel they will save up for. The Venture II can store a total of 4270 cargo, but this isn't its only feature.

Unlike the Autobahn, the Venture II also has the space to hold four crew members, allowing players to take more members of Constellation or the other crew they recruit on their adventure. With both lasers and ballistic shots it can also easily shoot through any and all space pirates.

2 Star Semi

4,890 Cargo Space

The Star Semi in Starfield

Hopetown is a small place that is most often visited during the Freestar Ranger quest line, this town gets on by creating large space vessels. Fortunately, these spacecrafts are also available for purchase as well.

The Star Semi is one example of this for its large amount of storage. It can hold a total of 4890 cargo mass. Combining this with its five crew slots and large shield, players are flying around a fortified vessel that can take a beating while in space.

1 Silent Runner

6,060 Cargo Space

The Silent Runner in Starfield

Out of all the ships available, there is one more Hopetown vessel that is by far the greatest ship in Starfield for a player looking for a lot of cargo space. The Silent Runner looks almost identical to the Star Semi but comes with plenty of upgraded parts. This small ship can hold 6060 cargo mass worth of resources and other items which makes it one of the best cargo vessels in Starfield.

Besides this, the Silent Runner even has a better shield and can travel further than the Star Semi making it a crucial choice for anyone focusing more on space travel rather than space combat. Players can purchase it at Hopetown.
