  • Starfield fans have been creating impressive ships in the game, with one player designing a giant scorpion-inspired spacecraft, showcasing the creativity allowed by the shipbuilding mechanics.
  • The scorpion ship not only has a visually striking design but also packs a lot of firepower, with its mechanical stinger featuring three powerful lasers.
  • The ship was built without relying on glitches or third-party software, and the player confirmed that they designed it on a vanilla version of the game, playing on an Xbox console.

One Starfield fan with an apparent engineering disposition built an incredible in-game ship that looks like a scorpion. Their vessel is just one of many impressive Starfield community creations that have been pouring online since Bethesda's latest RPG hit the market.

Although Starfield's ship builder is an entirely optional part of the game, the level of complexity that Bethesda delivered with its implementation of this mechanic has been preoccupying countless players for the better part of September. And while some of those fans have so far been focused on recreating famous vessels in Starfield, others turned their attention toward entirely original designs.

One particularly impressive example of the latter approach comes from Reddit user CostKey9800, who recently went through the effort of making their Starfield ship look like a giant scorpion. With two claws, several pairs of legs made of landing gears, and a giant stinger, their spacecraft falls somewhere between a sight to behold and a ghastly abomination to flee from, depending on one's tolerance for the predatory arachnids that inspired this intricate feat of engineering.

Though large parts of the vessel are composed of Structural modules—Starfield's jargon for purely cosmetic parts—that's not to say that this imposing spacecraft sacrifices function for form. On the contrary, the scorpion-shaped ship packs a lot of firepower, with its creator confirming that the mechanical stinger alone features three pieces of some of the deadliest lasers in the game. The spacecraft itself spans nine floors, three of which appear to have traversable interiors, while the rest exist to accommodate its massive claws, tail, and stinger.

While the author of this stunning vessel did not share a detailed parts list and component placement breakdown used for constructing the ship, they did confirm that the spacecraft was designed on a vanilla version of the game, without relying on glitches or third-party software. Elaborating on that point, the fan revealed that they are playing Bethesda's latest title on an Xbox console, so streamlining the shipbuilding process by modding Starfield simply wasn't an option for them. Even if that wasn't the case, the current selection of PC mods doesn't do much to facilitate complex designs beyond making the ship builder controls a bit more responsive.

This striking flying scorpion is yet another excellent illustration of the sort of creativity that the game's shipbuilding mechanics allow. Another such example surfaced online just last week in the form of a remarkable Starfield replica of the Titanic.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
