A Starfield player used the game’s intricate ship-building mechanics to construct a vessel that looks like a giant doorstop. While Starfield players can find a wide variety of ships in the inky blackness of space or on planet surfaces, they can also head to any of the game’s several shipyards to build the spaceship of their dreams, but only if they’ve got enough credits, some creativity, and a little patience.
Just as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players went wild using the game’s vehicle construction mechanics to build everything from Batmobiles to mechs, Starfield players have had a ball using their near-limitless creativity to build spaceships that are ripped straight out of their favorite science fiction films and games, or build ships that are just plain awesome, like how one player made a ship that looks like a giant flying scorpion.
One Starfield player who goes by the name new2gym felt a little jealous of all the creative ships they were seeing people build, since they have trouble bringing to life the kinds of impressive ships that get shared on social media. To demonstrate the lack of creative juice that they and so many fellow Starfield players tend to feel when confronted by the complex ship-building mechanics, new2gym shared an image of their ship: it’s a wedge. A giant gray doorstop-looking thing that, while not the prettiest ship in the Settled Systems, is certainly one of the most aerodynamic.
New2gym’s ship is mostly made out of Taiyo Slope Caps, whose description says are a ship part used almost exclusively for aesthetic purposes to help players customize a ship’s shape and style. The base of the ship comprises several cargo containers, which explains why the wedge has a spacious cargo capacity of 7600. They mention that the wedge has only one long ladder, which is used to move up and down the layers of habs. The cockpit is buried deep within the wedge and isn’t visible from the outside, since the shipbuilder doesn’t care if the player can’t physically see what they’re flying toward or shooting at.
One commenter suggested new2gym paint the whole thing yellow to make it a giant space-faring cheese wedge. Sadly, the shipbuilder menu wouldn’t allow new2gym to add color to the ship. Others suggested they name the ship Wedge Antilles after the Star Wars X-Wing pilot who helped take out both Death Stars. There have been plenty of players using Star Wars as inspiration for their ship designs, but few are explicitly making ships based on Star Wars puns.
