A clever Starfield player has perfectly recreated Gollum using the character creator in the game. Out of all the famous characters created in Starfield thus far, this Gollum design might just be the creepiest.

Starfield has only been available since September 6, yet there have already been countless character creations that resemble famous figures from movies, television, and other video games. A few of these creations make sense when considering Starfield’s outer space setting, like Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story series, while others feel completely random, like Lord Farquadd from the Shrek Franchise and Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberry’s. Some of these designs are spot on, too, like the recreation of Arthur Morgan in Starfield, and some of them are just plain cool, like Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Reddit user kenn-dich-selbst decided to recreate one of the most famous characters in all of literature, Gollum, from The Lord of the Rings series. What makes this realistic character creation in Starfield so impressive is how fragile the face looks and the general shape of his gray head. Of course, the body itself is too tall for Gollum, but the game has no three-foot-tall models to choose from. Kenn-dich-selbst mentioned in the comments that they tried to make the eyes bigger, but this was as far as the eye size could go. They also noted that random NPCs will walk up to the Gollum recreation and offer cups of coffee, telling him that it will make him feel better, revealing that those in the Starfield world think he has some kind of disease.

Gollum, also known as his alter-ego Smeagol, is a former hobbit who was corrupted by the power of the One Ring. He’s a conflicted character who wants to destroy the ring and keep the ring forever, and this eternal struggle drives a large amount of the main narrative. Gollum is a character that’s never been to space, but he still works as a custom character in Starfield due to the fact that he kind of looks like an alien.

2023 hasn’t been the best year for Gollum, as many fans are still disappointed with his solo outing in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. Even the most hardcore Lord of the Rings fan couldn’t withstand the game’s uninspiring narrative and generally lackluster gameplay, making it one of the worst-reviewed games of this year. Still, seeing a fan-favorite character like Gollum in Starfield may give them hope that he will be handled better in the future.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
