Highlights

  • Starfield offers a visually striking violet planet in the Muphrid system, which players can explore alongside other random worlds and grand faction storylines.
  • Unlike previous Bethesda games, the planets in Starfield are procedurally generated, allowing for endless exploration and the discovery of valuable items.
  • The upcoming Creation Kit will further expand the game's scope and potentially introduce more planets like Muphrid I.

Starfield has several hundred planets for characters to sink their teeth into, though few are quite as visually striking as the violet world discovered by a player in the Muphrid system. While space exploration in Starfield is a bit limited from what fans were hoping to get, the real gameplay highlights have been found by surveying random worlds, getting involved in grand faction storylines, and roaming the wilderness. Starfield is a true Bethesda sandbox, and the community will be digging through its every nook and cranny for many years to come.

Unlike its predecessors, the planets in Starfield are all procedurally generated outside from specific story-heavy locations such as New Atlantis or Akila City. It's a bold departure from the standard Bethesda formula, but in practice, it has done little to stop players from chasing that thrill of endless exploration. Even a simple task such as surveying Jemison in Starfield can take several hours, and players will likely end up finding a plethora of good items along the way.

While not every procedurally generated planet in Starfield is a visual marvel, even the barren moons often have interesting materials to offer. For Muphrid I, the first planet in the Muphrid system, the temperatures are too hot to support life, and it only has Uranium and Iridium to offer. However, as showcased by YucciPP on the official Starfield subreddit, it's a very breathtaking, richly purple planet worth seeing.

Planting down an outpost in Starfield to gather Iridium on Muphrid I wouldn't be the worst idea either, as the game encourages players to establish a network of settlements and reap the rewards. Having a passive source of income is one of the best ways to finance ship building in Starfield, as components can get rather pricey. Those interesting in landing on the purple planet of Muphrid I can find the system near Cheyenne and Kryx. Luckily, it's a Level 15 location, which means that characters can safely make their way to the Muphrid system early in their playthrough.

As players continue to explore the Star Map in Starfield, the impending release of the Creation Kit in early 2024 will only expand upon the Settled Systems in terms of scope. Modders will be given tools to build their own Starfield planet from scratch, and possibly even make use of the game's powerful procedural generation. Maybe in a year from now, there will be more purple planets in Starfield beyond Muphrid I.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
