Starfield PC Version Has an Unusual Requirement

Those looking to check out Starfield on their PC will want to make sure they take a look at the required specs, particularly the bit where it says that players will need to have a solid-state drive in order to play the game. Fans of RPGs have quite a bit to look forward to in 2023, not just Bethesda's hotly anticipated sci-fi action title, though of course the Skyrim studio's next offering is pretty much front and center when it comes to inbound role-playing games.

The recent Xbox Games Showcase was a chance to check out some upcoming releases, which was immediately followed by Starfield Direct. During this latter event, Bethesda revealed some additional details about its new game, such as the fact that Starfield will have a post-launch DLC expansion, and it also gave the developer the opportunity to show off the skill tree and ship customization mechanic.

Starfield is an Xbox exclusive title, but that also means that PC users will still get to play it. As such, the hardware requirements have been revealed, showing that users, for the most part, won't need anything particularly outrageous. However, the one thing that does stand out in the spec list is the fact that players will need an SSD, suggesting that the game won't run on an HDD. According to a report from DSO Gaming, a "normal" SATA SSD should be enough and most PC users likely have a solid-state drive anyway, so it may not be too much of an ask. Still, it kind of suggests the direction modern AAA gaming is going in 2023.

As well as DLC and a chance to see further details about some of the game's features, fans were excited, though perhaps not surprised, to learn that Starfield is also coming to Xbox Game Pass from day one. The Microsoft gaming service is already pretty popular among Xbox and PC users, and no doubt Bethesda's upcoming release will result in a large uptick in new or returning subscribers.

While all this is going on, many are still anticipating news on the status of The Elder Scrolls 6. At this point, the 2018 E3 teaser is five years old, with very little word from Bethesda about where it is in development or when it's likely to release. Hopefully, once Starfield is out, things will progress more openly on the long-awaited follow-up to Skyrim.
