  • The Normandy is a beloved symbol of Mass Effect, known for its stealth technology and role in the original trilogy's storyline.
  • Starfield's ship building mechanics provide players with the opportunity to explore the universe in the legendary Normandy, experiencing its iconic journeys and battles.

The sky seems to be the limit for what people can build in Starfield, and one clever player has recreated the famous Normandy spacecraft from Mass Effect. One of the strongest selling points for Bethesda’s latest open-world RPG is the sheer flexibility it offers players in its character creation and spaceship customization suites, which have been used to remake famous people and vessels from games, movies, and television shows.

Naturally, many of these creative Starfield tributes have been pulled from famous science fiction properties like Alien and Star Wars. When it comes to video game-based vehicles, Starfield players have been spotted cruising the stars in Fox McCloud’s famous Arwing from the Star Fox series and the beloved Ebon Hawk from Knights of the Old Republic. Of course, KOTOR isn’t BioWare’s only title to take RPG fans into the vast reaches of space, and now Starfield fans are recreating the defining spaceship from one of the developer’s most iconic franchises.

Recently, a Reddit user by the name of SexyGandalph posted screenshots of their stunningly accurate rendition of the Normandy from Mass Effect on the Starfield subreddit. More specifically, this custom ship resembles the Normandy SR-2 from Mass Effect 2 due to its orange highlights and afterburner flames. Nonetheless, other users have complimented SexyGandalph for their work in capturing the Normandy’s signature trident-like design.

To many fans, the Normandy is almost as synonymous with Mass Effect as Commander Shepard, as the trusty spaceship carried them and their rag-tag crew of allies across the Milky Way galaxy in BioWare’s original trilogy. Originally given to Shepard during their mission to track down the rogue Spectre Saren, the Normandy is deemed the crown jewel of the Alliance Navy due to its cutting-edge stealth technology. It was destroyed at the beginning of Mass Effect 2, but a second Normandy was built by the terrorist organization Cerberus. This Normandy was later commandeered and refitted by the Alliance for the final battle against the Reapers in Mass Effect 3.

It isn’t clear if the Normandy will appear again in Mass Effect 4, but fans still have fond memories of the trusty spaceship that journeyed to Ilos, braved the Omega-4 Relay, and clashed with the Reapers above the battlefields of Earth - so much so that many have made 3D models and custom-painted automobiles in its honor. Thanks to Starfield’s in-depth shipbuilding mechanics, players can now tour the universe behind the bridge of Mass Effect’s legendary Normandy vessel - and hopefully, they don’t run into any Husks or Collectors while exploring the game’s many procedurally-generated worlds.

Starfield is available on PC and Xbox Series X.
