Although players can earn Credits by completing main story missions and side quests, the best way to earn money in Starfield is arguably by selling items. As they explore the game's massive open world, players will be able to loot and steal all manner of unique resources, many of which can then be sold for big bucks by visiting one of the game's many merchants or stores.

Selling items in Starfield is relatively straightforward, although there are a few things that players will need to keep in mind. For starters, some merchants will only purchase certain types of goods, and players will only be able to sell items that they're carrying on them or things that are in one of their ships' cargo holds. Again though, figuring out how everything works shouldn't prove to be all that difficult.

In order to sell things in Starfield, players will first need to speak with a merchant and then open up the Buy menu by asking to see their wares. From there, it's a simple case of pressing the LB button (Xbox) or the Q key to switch to the Sell screen. Doing so a second time will pull up the inventory of the player's ship, allowing them to sell things from the cargo hold without having to physically bring them into the store, which can make inventory management much easier.

Unfortunately, there is no way to sell things directly from the inventory of a companion, so players will need to move these things into their own inventory or store them onboard their ship. It's also worth noting that certain vendors will only trade in one particular type of goods such as weapons or outfits. However, players can get around this by visiting a store or merchant that doesn't specialize in one thing, such as the Jemison Mercantile store in the Spaceport area of New Atlantis.

To sell stolen goods or contraband in Starfield , players will either need to visit a merchant with flexible morals or pay a visit to their local Trade Authority. The New Atlantis Trade Authority can be found down in The Well .

There are plenty of great skills in Starfield, but for those who plan on making their money through trading, Commerce is probably one of the very best. It increases the amount of Credits that players will receive from selling items, while also decreasing the amount that they'll need to pay when buying. Initially, they'll get a 5% discount on purchases and earn 10% more Credits for all sales, though if they buy or sell enough unique items, they'll be able to upgrade the skill. At Rank 4, the Commerce skill provides a 20% discount and increases all sale prices by a massive 25%.

Where to Sell Stuff in Starfield

Those wondering where to sell items in Starfield have plenty of options, though the type of item that they're trying to sell will limit those options somewhat. It should perhaps go without saying, but vendors who only sell one type of item will only buy that one specific item type, meaning that players won't be able to sell minerals at a gunshop, and vice versa. As such, it's best to head to a general merchant to sell items in Starfield, such as Jemison Mercantile in the Spaceport area of New Atlantis. If players want to sell stolen items or contraband, they'll instead need to visit a Trade Authority, which can be found in most major settlements. The New Atlantis Trade Authority is in the Well area of the city.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
