Over the course of their journey through Starfield, it is possible for players to collect a considerable number of spaceships. The game features a variety of methods for acquiring ships, with several available to purchase, or given as mission rewards. Starfield even features a robust piracy system that allows players to commandeer ships and add them to their collection. This fact will inevitably lead players to bump into that classic problem faced in many RPGs: a lack of space.

When this happens, and players are looking for a way to make space, the best option will be to sell at least one of the ships. This system, though relatively simple, is quite easy to miss. This guide will show players exactly where to go to complete this task, and how they can benefit from it as they continue through the game.

Where to Sell Ships in Starfield

Given its immense size, it is perhaps unsurprising that Starfield's systems can sometimes get lost among a sea of incredible features. The ability to sell ships is certainly one of these systems. This mechanic is inherently tied to a suite of features that are found at Ship Services, Starfield's hub for ship upgrades and repairs.

While it may not be 100% of the time, Ship Services can generally be found at every major-city spaceport in Starfield, as well as several other smaller outposts. Players will be introduced to the Ship Services Technician very early in the game, though unfortunately, it happens to be at the same time players are learning several other key mechanics. Luckily, these helpful merchant/craftspeople are available throughout the game, so players will never really reach a point where they are unavailable.

The technician in New Atlantis will be found right next to the Transit Authority Kiosk, directly in front of the landing area the players always uses.

Make sure to save before selling a ship. This will ensure the player can return to a previous point in the game if they accidentally sold the wrong ship, or simply regret the decision.

To sell a ship, approach the technician and press A (or PC equivalent) to engage with them. Several dialogue options will appear, make sure to choose "Let me see what ships you have for sale," or the closest line to this. This will bring up the list of available ships at that specific location. Each technician found in Starfield will offer different ships.

Once in the ship overview menu, look for the 'Sell' command prompt at the bottom of the screen, which is activated by pressing Y. This will change the Ship Overview from 'Buy' to 'Sell.' Pressing Y again will return to 'Buy.' Now, the players ships will be on display. Pressing RB or LB will bring up the next ship in the players inventory.

Check the bottom of each ship's information menu to see their value at that location. Make sure not to rely on the value information shown when using the player's own ship overview. Actual prices will be considerably less when actually attempting to sell.

When the player has decided on the ship they would like to sell, simply press A to complete the transaction.

How To Make Money Fast Selling Ships

Once players understand the mechanics of selling ships, they can use Starfield's piracy mechanics to make a decent amount of credits on a regular basis. Players can begin a full-on ship stealing business with very little investment.

Starfield-Ship-Sell-Targeting-Skill

First, players should unlock the Targeting Control Systems skill, in the Tech skill branch. This will allow players to target a ship's engines, which is required to successfully commandeer a ship.

Next, players should invest in using Starfield's Ship Builder to install even the most basic upgrades to the ships weapons and shields. Later, players will want to turn their ships into a space-faring death machine, but at first, avoiding catastrophic damage is the only real goal. Luckily, the Frontier is more than capable of taking out the bandits that roam Starfield's Settled Systems.

Remember that ships cannot be docked and boarded until all combat has ended, so in the case of a large-scale space battle, it might make sense to wait until there is only one remaining ship, then take out its engines and board. Players will be required to kill anyone on board a ship before they can steal it, so keep that in mind as well. When dealing with pirates, this may not be much of an issue, but Companions will be seriously offended by the killing of innocent bystanders.

Each Technician has around 72,000 credits in their account, so players can continue this process at each location, then move to another when it is dried up. There is also the option to simply keep any ship that is desirable. That will depend on each player's personal taste.

Starfield is available now in on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
