Sam Coe is a former Freestar Ranger, and he is a current member of the Constellation. One of his ancestors, Solomon Coe, founded Akila City, which eventually became the capital of the Freestar Collective faction.

Given his past and his family's name, Sam is an infamous guy, especially near Freestar Collective airspace. He has a bad reputation among some of the locals since he used to work as a weapons smuggler before he met Lillian Hart, his former partner, with whom he had his daughter, Cora Coe. On top of this, some people also don't appreciate him leaving the Freestar Rangers to join Constellation.

Nowadays, Sam is a righteous man, so he respects those who work for the Freestar Rangers and those who ruthlessly bring justice to criminals, and he is not a fan of the Trade Authority.

Sam Coe has a complex past, and it has left him with some considerable baggage that the player must help him get through throughout the game.

Sam Coe does not get along with his father, Jacob Coe, because they disagree on their lifestyle choices. Additionally, Sam also has some issues with his ex-partner, as she is very invested in her work as a Freestar Ranger and oftentimes misses scheduled encounters with her daughter.

Players need to be supportive and provide Sam with useful advice so that he can begin to trust them. He will eventually start talking about his situation with Lillian, which will lead to the Matters of the Hart mission - Sam's companion quest.

Matters of the Hart

After not receiving letters from her mother for a while, Cora Coe becomes concerned and asks Sam and the player to look for her. Gamers must look for her at a Freestar Ranger Outpost on Neon, but after following the clues in her office and in Ryujin Apartments' room 305, they will find out that she's at Victor Compound on McClure II.

Players will have to take down dozens of enemies on McClure II in the McClure system before Sam Coe can radio Lillian, allowing the player to finally meet her.

Before continuing to romance Sam, fans have to help Lillian Hart complete her mission. They'll have to grab an item called Valerie's Cache, and they can only obtain it by destroying Dumas, a ship orbiting Raselhague II in the Raselhague system. The secret cache will lead to Valerie Mosquera's location on Andromas III in the Andromas system.

On Andromas, players will have to take down quite a few ships filled with enemies, including Valerie Mosquera herself. Once they've done this, they can speak to Lillian and Sam and help them patch things up in order to make things more stable between the two of them for the sake of Cora Coe.

To marry Sam Coe, players must go to Akila City after starting the Commitment: Sam Coe mission. Here, they must talk to Jacob Coe at Coe Estate, and then they can start the ceremony after meeting Lillian at the Starport and Cora at Sinclair's Books.

A commitment ceremony will ensue. Gamers can say their vows, and afterward, the Mayor of Akila City will officially declare them lifemates. Sam will gift the player his Freestar Ranger Badge as a commitment gift.

The ceremony will turn Sam Coe and the player into committed partners, and gamers will not get the Emotional Security stat boost whenever they sleep instead of the Well Rested boost. So, instead of receiving a ten percent XP boost, they'll receive a 15 percent XP boost for 24 minutes, as they feel better after sleeping with a newly found partner.

To break up with a partner, players only need to approach them and ask them how they're feeling about the relationship. They can then express that they'd like to put an end to it.
