Highlights

  • Maxed-out Gymnastics skill in Starfield allows for ridiculous jumps, demonstrated in a goofy gameplay footage that went viral on social media.
  • While opinions on the skill vary, even some fans consider Tier 1 useful for close-quarters combat. Higher tiers offer less tangible benefits but drastically increase jump height.
  • The skill's potential for traversal and gaining high ground can benefit various playstyles such as snipers, stealthy characters, and those looking to avoid unnecessary fights.

One Starfield player recently took it upon themselves to highlight how ridiculous a maxed-out Gymnastics skill truly is, having done so with some goofy gameplay footage demonstrating it in action. The clip subsequently made the rounds on social media, illustrating how even some of the most niche Starfield skills have rather compelling applications.

While player opinions on the matter inevitably vary, fans who number Gymnastics among the best Starfield skills are few and far between. Even those who decide to invest their hard-earned skill points into this talent will usually stop at Tier 1, which unlocks the ability to perform a slide from a full sprint, thus being useful for builds specializing in close-quarters combat.

A Starfield player takes online to share a peculiar story about how they ended up with two wives in Bethesda's galaxy-spanning RPG.

And though the subsequent two ranks of Gymnastics offer less tangible benefits, the skill's final tier increases the protagonist's jump height to such a ridiculous degree that the overall investment might still be worth it. In an effort to illustrate that point, Reddit user Space_Scumbag recently shared a clip of their character vaulting over structures in the New Atlantis Spaceport, showing how Tier 4 Gymnastics effectively triple one's jumping height and allow for some truly "insane" traversal. Thousands of fans promptly voted to send their video to the front page of the game's largest subreddit, indicating that many players were unaware of this Starfield skill's true potential.

One important bit of context to keep in mind is that the clip was recorded on Jemison, whose gravity amounts to 0.91g, or 9% less than Earth's. Since plenty of planets in the game have much lower gravity, Tier 4 Gymnastics could allow for even greater leaps than the ones demonstrated in this newly surfaced video, especially if paired with Starfield's Amp enhancer that doubles any given character's jumping height.

And though the clip itself focuses on the fan role-playing as a Jedi, as evidenced by their attire of choice and the abundance of Stormtroopers that they added via Starfield mods, maxed-out Gymnastics have much wider applications; the horizontal verticality enabled by the skill's final tier should be equally useful for snipers and stealthy characters, not least because both will usually want to gain high ground over enemies. Anyone looking to avoid unnecessary fights by simply breezing past mobs might also find the extra leaping reach unlocked by the skill to be worth the investment.

Starfield is far from the first Bethesda game to allow players to become ridiculously good jumpers. That title goes to The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall, the company's 1996 classic that enabled players to make even larger leaps by simply investing in their Strength attribute. Morrowind doubled down on this feature with a dedicated Acrobatics skill, which ended up being toned down in Oblivion before it was completely omitted from Skyrim.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
