Considering the Freestar Collective has been around the galaxy since before the player character was even born, there are a few facts about them that are worth knowing to better understand this government, and where they stand in the galaxy. Even if these facts might turn players sour against them, or more towards them.

6 The Importance Of Solomon Coe

Solomon Coe is revered as the founder of Akila City. Solomon Coe has done many great things to assist in the relations of the Freestar Collective, including the fact that he was the first governor and one of the primary founders of the Freestar Collective.

Solomon Coe established relations with Neon, a pleasure city in the Volii System, in 2189. Solomon invited this system to join in an alliance with Akila City and the Cheyenne System, thus birthing the origin of the Freestar Collective and the growing government body that would reach out to other star systems.

5 Systems Of The Freestar Collective

Due to the wars caused by the rival governments, the Freestar Collective doesn’t exactly have a wealth of star systems under its belt. The Freestar Collective has the Cheyenne System, Narion System, and the Volii System, each has an important location that players are bound to visit when they adventure through the galaxy in search of civilized areas.

Such notable areas and colonies belonging to the Freestar Collective are Akila City, HopeTown, Neon, Stroud-Eklund Staryard, The Clinic, and the mining outpost where the player first started their journey in Starfield. These territories may not be the biggest, but they certainly hold great influence.

4 Forming The Freestar Rangers

It wasn’t until 2221 that the Freestar Rangers were founded. This group of peacekeepers was formed in the fashion of the Old West, allowing those who joined the Freestar Rangers to act like sheriffs, deputies, and marshals. The Freestar Rangers uphold the law across the Freestar Collective systems, and feature as the primary force for investigation and protection of the citizens within.

Players can find a Freestar Ranger office in almost every location held by the Freestar Collective, each with a ranger to hold the outpost secure and protect the law and the citizens. Peacekeeping the Freestar Collective is not an easy job, but the fact that the Freestar Collective is a little more lawless than the United Colonies, there is some leeway with what they allow.

3 Freestar’s Place In The Colony War

The Colony War is a vitally important piece of Starfield history, in which the galaxy was ravished by the conflict between the rival governments of the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective during the years 2308 and 2311. Peace is rather thin between the two governments by the time the players make their way into the game, and this can be traced back to the origins of the war, and the Freestar Collective’s place within it.

The first etchings of the war started when the Freestar Collective decided to colonize Vesta in 2307, which was a planet in the Lunara system. The United Colonies objected under the guise that they were violating the Treaty of Narion by expanding outside the three agreed star systems they had. The UC attacked the Vesta colony in 2308 and thus set off the Colony War that killed countless lives.

2 The Battle Of Cheyenne

Considering the importance of the Colony War, it’s worth noting the Battle of Cheyenne. The Battle of Cheyenne occurred in 2311 in which the Freestar Collective deployed both their civilian ships and their military to attack the United Colonies Navy. This battle was a deciding factor in the Colony War, and the fact that the Freestar Collective banded together as one unit to defeat the UC and protect their founding star system, led to a victory.

After this battle, the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective started talks for the Armistice, which would attempt to usher in a new treaty and bring peace to the galaxy that had been at war for far too long, even if that came with the cost of a few compromises.

1 The Council of Governors

The Freestar Collective is not just a lawless and casual Libertarian government. The Freestar Collective is actually governed by a council that will help the Freestar Collective make just decisions, led by the best minds that the Freestar has to offer. The Council of Governors provides authority over the decisions of the Freestar Collective, including the Rangers and the Militia.

Some of the notable members of the Council of Governors include the mayor of Akila City, Elias Cartwright, Administrator Benjamin Bayu of Neon, Ron Hope of HopeTown, and Dr. Lara Darvish of The Clinic. These key members hold the deciding factors of the Freestar Collective.
