One highly inventive Starfield player managed to leverage the game's building mechanics to construct a fairly faithful recreation of the Titanic. Their achievement helps underline the immense versatility of the Starfield ship builder.

While Bethesda's latest title can be beat with just the starter ship obtained within minutes of beginning a new playthrough, it also offers a wide variety of other space vessels to purchase and modify. Fans with a particular propensity for engineering work are also able to build a custom ship in Starfield from the ground up.

And while many players have been doing just that ever since the game entered early access on September 1, few have approached their custom vessels with as much creativity as Reddit user jethrowwilson, who recently managed to build a flying Titanic. Their design is instantly evocative of the famed passenger liner, featuring all four colors and just as many funnels as the vessel that sank in 1912. It also conforms to the Titanic's overall shape about as well as Starfield's selection of spacecraft components allows. That fact wasn't lost on dozens of fans who praised its author for their creation, or hundreds more who voted to send the image of this incredible Starfield ship docked in New Atlantis to the front page of the game's largest subreddit.

The author of this Titanic-inspired spacecraft explained that they have long been nurturing an "obsession" with the famous vessel, concluding that the prospects of recreating one in Starfield hence seemed too good to pass up once they got their hands on the game. The player did not reveal how much this feat of engineering set them back, but seeing how their Titanic recreation largely consists of parts that fall under the Structural category, it's plausible that the cost of constructing the vessel was below 250,000 credits. After all, Structural components in Starfield are largely cosmetic in nature, existing primarily to allow players to build larger spacecraft without necessarily breaking the bank.

And while the newly shared vessel is by no means small, Starfield actually supports the construction of even larger ships, especially in terms of width. That said, this Titanic-shaped spacecraft appears to be fairly close to Starfield's overall component limit, which sits at around 130 modules.

Recreating famous steamships is far from the only possible application of the building mechanics in Bethesda's space-faring RPG. Starfield players have so far built everything from Darth Maul's ship to spider-shaped vessels, as well as gigantic carriers conducive to interplanetary smuggling.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
