Most video game enthusiasts will likely remember Starfield's reveal and teaser trailer as if it was yesterday that they were presented, but in truth, it's been around three years since that moment. It was E3, back in 2018, and now there are still fundamentally few official details about what Starfield will look like, its gameplay, and much more. It's not uncommon for Bethesda to leave fans hanging in there for quite a long time before any piece of news is finally shared with the community, and the Rockville studio has a history of making well-crafted presentations only to announce the game will be released very soon after.
Starfield has had plenty of rumors and presumed leaks for fans to cling onto for the past three years. The amount of official information is dismal, but one thing seems to be confirmed, and that's that Starfield will indeed be one of the games featured at the E3 this year. Hopefully, if so, then the long silence around the game will be broken, and it won't return to this silent treatment.
What To Know About Starfield, E3, And Next-Gen Graphics
There have been very few official details on Starfield, apart from a few interviews with Todd Howard, but they haven't really revealed much about the game. Because Starfield is still in development, implications from things Howard said are not necessarily applicable to the final build of the game too, and this means that there should be no expectations on this new IP until fans get to see more of it. Of course, this seems to be the case thanks to the reports saying that Starfield will indeed be at E3, although this decision could still be changed prior to the convention for whatever reason.
Bethesda has been quiet and silent about Starfield, but if this space adventure RPG proves to be at E3, then it's very likely that the studio will reveal quite a lot of new stuff. There could be a full trailer, for starters, and then maybe some gameplay footage to show what the title has to offer, and how it will look on the graphics side of things for both PC and Xbox Series X/S. It's very likely that Starfield will release for these platforms only, considering that Microsoft acquired Bethesda back in September 2020 and it was said that there would be a few Xbox-exclusive titles to come.
What to Expect From Starfield At E3 2021
What are the implications of a full reveal now, at E3 in June, for Starfield and Bethesda, and what should be the players' expectations for this event be? First of all, many have thought fully revealing Starfield would probably be another Fallout 4 experience for Bethesda and players alike, with presumably Todd Howard himself showcasing lots of content for the game. If Starfield goes full Fallout 4 at E3, many may be clinging for a similar turnaround time, but fans should be aware that this is no longer as likely as it once was.
The aforementioned reports indicate that Starfield is further away than many think, due to development on Fallout 76 and other details. However, if this is true, a proper reveal at E3 could mean that the silent treatment is broken and fans can expect more info over the coming months. If its presentation at E3 is less, however, fans may expect more of the same. Either way, this E3 could give some major insight into the direction of Bethesda's portfolio.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is yet another game that is among those most anticipated upcoming titles, including Starfield too, of course, and others like Elden Ring and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 back in 2018, during the same E3 when Starfield was revealed as well, and ever since its very brief teaser trailer, there were no further updates nor footage shown. The Elder Scrolls 6 is set to release only after Starfield does, which means that if the latter gets a reveal, then maybe the silent treatment around ends too.
Bethesda having new material to show at E3 this year would break a silence that has lasted for over one thousand days, and by the time E3 goes live in 2021, this record would break the 1100 days milestone. This means that at least a new trailer for Starfield is long overdue. Hopefully, though, Bethesda doesn't stop there, expanding by a lot what is currently known about the game thus far and maybe throwing in a small new teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6. But that would simply be the best-case scenario, which, as much as players would like for it to be the favored outcome, doesn't really seem to be in the realms of possibility, unfortunately. Time will tell, and June is fast approaching, meaning it won't be long before players get a more definitive answer on the matter.
