Highlights

  • Bethesda is planning to add Nvidia DLSS support to Starfield, addressing the lack of AI upscaling technology that disappointed some gamers.
  • The developers are also working on other graphic options and updates requested by the community, including HDR calibration, FOV sliders, and Ultrawide Monitor support.
  • Currently, there is a hotfix available to improve stability and fix bugs in certain quests, and Bethesda is seeking feedback from the modding community for future mod support tools.

Bethesda has recently announced that Starfield will gain support for Nvidia DLSS soon. Despite the fact that Starfield received rave reviews from several critics, the lack of DLSS was felt pretty hard by some gamers, as they needed to rely on mods to access the feature.

DLSS is an upscaling technology that uses AI to enhance graphics, and it’s exclusive to Nvidia graphic cards. Unfortunately, the popular option is currently unavailable in Starfield, which prompted a modder to create a DLSS mod for Starfield before the game was even properly accessible to everybody on September 6.

Now, Bethesda has promised that DLSS support is coming up soon for Starfield. According to the developers, the team is already working on full Nvidia DLSS support, as well as other graphic options that were requested by the community, including HDR calibration, Field of Vision sliders, more controls for brightness and contrast, and 32:9 Ultrawide Monitor support. Unfortunately, no specific date for the release of any of these changes has been given by Bethesda so far. Also, eagerly awaited updates such as adding city maps to the game have only been hinted at so far, meaning it may be a while before gamers see them. For the time being, the only option for gamers who want to use the AI upscaling tech is using PureDark’s Starfield Upscaler mod.

What is available in Starfield at the moment is a small hotfix that will improve stability to reduce crashes and increase framerates in both consoles and PC. The new hotfix is also set to fix bugs in three of the game’s quests: All That Money Can Buy, Into the Unknown, and Shadows in Neon. Additionally, Bethesda announced that it’s currently working on mod support tools that will work across all platforms, similar to what has been done in both Skyrim and Fallout 4, and asked for feedback from its modding community.

Despite the successful launch, it’s impossible to deny that Starfield disappointed a few people. For instance, Starfield was review bombed soon after its launch, receiving several scores of 0/10 and 1/10, despite getting positive reviews from most players. Most of the game’s detractors complained about the interplanetary exploration or technical issues, such as the lack of native DLSS support. Providing support for better graphic options and fixing bugs may go a long way in regaining some of the goodwill of the community, though.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
