Starfield’s cross-save is a cloud-based progress-sharing feature that allows simultaneous access to save files on Windows PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Players who buy the digital edition of Starfield will be able to pick up where they left off thanks to the game’s ‘Play Anywhere’ capability.

Play Anywhere is an Xbox and Windows-exclusive perk that lets users transfer their in-game progression across several devices at no cost. In the case of Starfield, this feature enables players to share the story or free-roam progress between Windows 10/11 PC and Xbox Series.

Here’s everything players need to know about cross-save in Starfield:

  • Starfield is a ‘Play Anywhere’ title. Players can purchase and play one digital version on three platforms: Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Windows 10 or 11 PC.
  • Everything carries over with cross-save. Story progression, achievements, unlockables, and all other Starfield gameplay details automatically transfer to other Microsoft platforms.
  • Starfield’s cross-progression is digital-purchase-exclusive. Disc users won’t be able to access their save files on PC.
  • Cross-save doesn’t require a Game Pass subscription. However, players will still need to have an internet connection.

How to Use Cross-Save in Starfield

To activate cross-progression in Starfield, sign into the same Microsoft account on PC and Xbox. If the PC and Xbox accounts differ, add them as each other’s aliases in Microsoft settings. This will share all benefits and subscriptions between them, activating Starfield’s cross-save for both devices.

Will Starfield Have Cross-Save on Steam?

Starfield on Steam Deck

Steam doesn’t support the ‘Play Anywhere’ feature of Starfield. Therefore, Steam players won’t be able to share save files between their PC client and Xbox console. The only workaround would be streaming the game on a Steam Deck through Game Pass.

Starfield will be available for PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 6, 2023.
