Bethesda loves a good easter egg, and Starfield is brimming with them. Yet, with Starfield being a new creation from Bethesda, and competing against their iconic series’ of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, it’s inevitable that their new game would feature a few easter eggs and references to past Bethesda games. Starfield has a few Bethesda easter eggs worth of note, and in such a vast galaxy, it’s inevitable that more will be discovered.

These Starfield Bethesda easter eggs can range from recognizable characters, voices, moments, or names that will make fans of all Bethesda games point in remembrance, whether that’s out of enjoyment or dread for what is referenced.

7 The Adoring Fan

the adoring fan attributes and skills in starfield

The first and perhaps most obvious reference is the return of none other than the Adoring Fan. This character originated from The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, where players could become the Arena Grand Champion in the Imperial City, only to be pestered by the Adoring Fan, a young and eccentric character with a ridiculous hairstyle who will follow the player and do everything they ask.

The Adoring Fan’s love of the player character is so strong that they’ve managed to cross into a new series. With the same voice talent from Craig Sechler, the Adoring Fan is back in Starfield and better than ever, or, more annoying than ever. If players want to find the Adoring Fan in Starfield, they’re going to need the Hero Worshiped Trait.

6 Ron Hope, The Imperial City Guard

If players venture to HopeTown, it’s rather likely that they are going to come across the CEO of HopeTech, Ron Hope. This character is vital to the Freestar Collective story missions when players head out to investigate a stolen HopeTech vessel as a Freestar Ranger. Meeting Ron Hope will have ears prickle up in recognition of the voice talent of Wes Johnson, the voice of Sheogorath, and the Imperial City guards in Oblivion.

Ron Hope’s voice is more in line with the casual chatter of an Imperial City Guard than the loud and proudly mad Sheogorath. It’s great to see this talent in Starfield, and it’s a nice reference to Bethesda’s use of their voice actors who always make a surprise appearance in their games.

5 Belethor Returns As A Scavenger

Another voice talent that returns to Starfield is Stephen Russell, the voice behind many of Skyrim’s NPCs, like Belethor. However, some players might even recognize Stephen Russell for his work as Nick Valentine, the Diamond City synthetic sleuth in Fallout 4. This time around, Russell plays just one character as opposed to hundreds, and that work is put into Captain Petrov, found in the No Sudden Moves Starfield mission.

Captain Petrov is an eccentric and somewhat slimy character, one who prides himself on his collection of rare and scavenged items from across the galaxy. Whether it’s a computer from the 20th century or an Artifact with unknown properties. If Petrov doesn’t have it, he wants it, and if he does have it, then no one else can. He’s a far cry from Belethor, a character who often boasts that he would sell his own sister if he had one.

4 Fallout 4’s Diamond City

old earth baseball

Another Fallout reference comes from an Old Earth Baseball item that players can find around the galaxy, or, in their first ship, the Frontier. Upon inspection, this item holds a baseball on a pyramid stand, with a plaque that reads “Play off baseball circia 1978 old Earth Boston.” Boston was the location for Fallout 4, and Diamond City was used as a capital location within the game.

It’s nice to see old Earth Boston again in Starfield, as it’s a fun reference. Hopefully one day players will find a Vault filled with a cloned Gary again, or even a set of power armor that helps lighten the load of carry capacity, but for now, a baseball will do.

3 Arrow In The Knee

The infamous line from Skyrim’s Guards returns in Starfield, but this time as a skill icon. Players might remember Skyrim guards saying “I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I took an arrow in the knee.” A phrase that held the internet in its grasp in 2011. This phrase has become an image in Starfield, and players need to venture into the Crippling skill on the Combat section and find Rank 3.

The Rank 3 icon for Crippling has an arrow quite literally, in a human knee. It’s a funny easter egg to Skyrim in Starfield and one that will probably forever follow Bethesda due to how everyone still uses that infamous line.

2 Delvin Mallory, Thieves Guild Member To Prison Inmate

As players begin their journey into the Crimson Fleet, they will be tasked with the Echoes of the Past quest. In this mission, players will travel through an ice planet along with some key Crimson Fleet characters, to fight through The Lock, an abandoned United Colonies prison. Deep inside the prison, players can locate a computer that holds Prisoner Records.

Within these Prisoner Records, players can look through a list of prisoners, with unfamiliar names and their status. However, there’s one prisoner in particular that catches the eye: Delvin Mallory, who some players may remember as a member of the Thieves Guild in Skyrim.

1 Ulfric Stormcloak, Crimson Fleet Member

It seems that within a new franchise, Ulfric Stormcloak from Skyrim has left behind the title of High King, and the civil war involving the Imperials and Stormcloaks to become the captain of a cruise ship in space. During the Crimson Fleet faction quest line, players will start the Breaking the Bank quest, where they will be assisted by a former Crimson Fleet member, Evgeny Rokov, who is posing as a Trident luxury ship captain.

When players first talk to Evgeny Rokov in Starfield, they may recognize that deep and gruff voice as the same as Ulfric Stormcloak, the Jarl of Windhelm. The voice of Vladimir Kulich is a welcome one to Starfield, and the character has features reminiscent of Ulfric himself.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
