  • The Visitor to the Docks may be connected to the Moonlight Jelly migration event, checking the safety of the docks for the jellies. The mystery may never be solved or could be a teaser for ConcernedApe's upcoming game Haunted Chocolatier.

Stardew Valley is quite the magical place. A wizard lives in a tower deep in Cindersap Forest, playful Junimo forest spirits help players restore Pelican Town's community center, and a "shadow person" merchant named Krobus dwells in the sewers. There is plenty of magic and mystery for Stardew Valley players to encounter.

Perhaps one of the most mysterious is the "Visitor to the Docks," a sea monster-like creature who has a slim chance of randomly appearing just off the Beach. As of 2023, players have still not conclusively identified who or what this creature is, although several theories have been put forward.

The Visitor To The Docks Event Explained

Stardew Valley Krobus Docks

Every time Stardew Valley players visit the Docks, there is a very slim (estimated to be less than 1%) chance that this mysterious Stardew Valley event will trigger. It consists of a bright green orb-shaped head briefly appearing out of the water. The creature can only be observed, and cannot be interacted with in any way. It generally appears near Willy's shack on the Docks, and can stay for several seconds or minutes before disappearing.

Who Is The Visitor To The Docks?

While it's possible that Stardew creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone may reveal more about the creature in the planned 1.6 Stardew Valley update, until then, fans can only speculate about the truth behind this strange Easter egg. So far, several theories have been put forward.

Merpeople were confirmed to exist in the world of Stardew Valley with the addition of the annual Night Market event, during which players can watch a mermaid perform and possibly earn a rare Pearl. The introduction of the Ginger Island location added a second Mermaid, who rewards players with Golden Walnuts if they can solve her puzzle. Perhaps the Sea Monster could be a friend or pet of the Mermaids who keeps an eye on the Valley for them.

It's Krobus' Ocean-Dwelling Friend, Relative, Or Partner

The shadowy Krobus lives in the sewers under Pelican Town, and is an adorable and friendly creature who sells rare magical items to the player. An update to Krobus' friendship path, which also allowed players to invite him to move in with them, added a scene where Krobus is shown hanging out with the Visitor at the docks. The two play in the water together, greet each other with hearts, and can communicate without words. While he's unwilling to share any details, it is clear that Krobus is a friend or perhaps relative or partner of the unidentified creature. Its occasional trips to Stardew Valley could be explained as it wanting to catch up with someone important to it.

It's Responsible For The Moonlight Jelly Migration

One of the most magical events in Stardew Valley is the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies, an annual Summer festival where glowing jellyfish briefly stop by the Valley as they migrate. Pelican Town's residents light torches to attract the jellies, who in turn perform a beautiful undersea "dance" for them. Perhaps the Sea Creature's appearances represent it checking whether the Pelican Town docks are still safe for the Moonlight Jellies to visit each year. This theory is further solidified by the occasional appearance of a rare green jelly that matches the Visitor in color, as well as the fact that the Visitor is surrounded by Moonlight Jellies during its encounter with Krobus.

Currently, it is unknown whether a definitive solution to this mystery exists within Stardew Valley, undiscovered by players, or if it is simply a magical occurrence without explanation. It's even possible that the Docks Visitor could be a teaser hinting at a larger plot in ConcernedApe's upcoming game Haunted Chocolatier, which has been confirmed to feature a larger focus on monsters and the supernatural.
