Stardew Valley Wild Animal Attack Event Explained

Stardew Valley Barn Animals Outside

A Wild Animal Attack is a Random Event triggered if you lock farm animals out of their coop or barn overnight. During the event, you hear growls and strange noises with no additional text displayed. The next morning, there is a 50% chance that one of your animals is missing.

Lore-wise, the Wild Animal Attack event replicates a wolf raid. However, since the Valley is home to many mythical creatures, the attacker’s identity remains a mystery.

The chances of each coop or barn being attacked are reduced by the number of structures. For example, if you have five barns on your farm, each will have a 20% chance of falling victim to a predator’s onslaught.

This Random Event is guaranteed to happen if no other Random Events have been triggered in the past year.

How to Know if A Wild Animal Has Attacked Your Farm

The Wild Animal Attack event leaves two signs behind. First, your surviving animals will look “stressed” and “paranoid.” Second, you will lose one of the animals that was left outside during the night.

The quickest way to investigate the aftermath is by interacting with a farm animal. If a wild animal has attacked them, their status will show the following text: [Animal Name] looks stressed and paranoid today. It seems like something bad happened last night.

The missing animal will not return to the farm at any point in your playthrough.

How to Prevent Wild Animal Attacks

If you don’t want a wild animal to eat your livestock, leave the coop and barn doors open at night. (Interact with the small entrance near the structure’s main door to open it.) This action allows the farm animals to return to their homes, where they are safe from predators.

Needless to say, if you don’t have any livestock or chicken, the event will be nullified automatically, even though you may hear the wild animal growls at night.

The Wild Animal Attack event won’t target your pets.
