Stardew Valley’s charm lies in its intricate details, especially the dynamic shift of seasons and the spawn of season-specific forageables. As Fall approaches, it’s time for farmers to harvest their crops before the frosty Winter sets in. Among the bountiful harvests of Fall are the Common Mushrooms, which flourish during this season.

Common Mushrooms are characterized by their brownish appearance in Stardew Valley. They have a unique texture and a slightly nutty flavor. These versatile fungi can be consumed to provide a subtle boost to the player’s energy and health or be used in a variety of cooking and crafting recipes.

  • Common Mushrooms can also be found in the Mushroom Cave on Ginger Island, just north of the Dig Site. This cave spawns random mushrooms daily for players to gather.

Players who have chosen the Gatherer profession have a 20% chance of receiving a double harvest of foraged items. Those with the Botanist profession are guaranteed to collect forageables of the highest quality .

Growing Common Mushrooms

Another way to get Common Mushrooms is by growing them on the farm. Common Mushrooms are grown from Fall Wild Seeds. Unfortunately, they are not sold at Pierre’s General Store or JojaMart. However, they can occasionally be found at the Traveling Cart, with prices ranging from 135 and 1,000 gold.

The easier way to obtain these seeds, though, is to craft them. 10 Fall Seeds can be crafted using the Crafting recipe “Wild Seeds (Fa),” which is obtained when players reach Foraging Level 6. The ingredients required are:

  • 1 Blackberry
  • 1 Common Mushroom
  • 1 Hazelnut
  • 1 Wild Plum

Fall Seeds take 7 days to grow. Mature plants have an equal chance of producing any of the following crops: Common Mushroom, Blackberry, Hazelnut, or Wild Plum.

Tapping Mushroom Trees

Mushrooms Trees and Tappers Stardew Valley

When tapped with a Tapper, Mushroom Trees produce Common Mushrooms, Red Mushrooms, and Purple Mushrooms in all seasons except Winter. The type of mushroom for the first harvest depends on the season. Common Mushrooms can be harvested during Spring or Summer, while Red Mushrooms appear in Fall.

It takes two nights in Spring or Summer or one night in Fall for Mushroom Trees to yield Mushrooms.

Using a Heavy Tapper does not make the process of tapping Mushrooms faster.

The Farm Cave

The Farm Cave can be access once players have earned 25,000 gold. When they reach this milestone, Demetrius, the local scientist, approaches the players and presents them with a choice: they can use the cave to cultivate mushrooms or have fruit bats inhabit it instead. Opting for the mushroom option results in the addition of six boxes in the Cave, where various types of mushrooms grow daily.

This is a good option for players who wish to grow the Common Mushrooms. There is a 69.8% chance per day of them spawning in the Cave.

Uses of Common Mushrooms

Apart from being used to craft Wild Seeds (Fa), Common Mushrooms make a decent gift for Linus, Leah, and Harvey; the rest of the villagers aren’t a fan of this particular fungus They are the only Fall forageable that can be directly processed in the Seed Maker to generate 1–3 Fall Seeds. Common Mushrooms are also required to complete the Fall Foraging Bundle in the Crafts Room at the Community Center. Additionally, they are used in a variety of Quests and Cooking recipes.

Quests

  • The “Help Wanted” board outside Pierre’s General Store occasionally requests the Common Mushroom in the Fall. Delivering this item rewards players with 120 gold and 150 Friendship Points.
  • Bullhead, Woodskip, Midnight Carp, or Largemouth Bass may randomly request 2 to 3 Common Mushrooms as part of Fish Pond quests.
