Since Stardew Valley's release in 2016, players of the popular farming simulator have discovered plenty of mysteries and secrets lurking within the titular valley. Creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone filled Stardew Valley with magic and wonder, ranging from a mystical Wizard to adorable Junimo spirits and more. While many of the game's secrets and mysteries have been uncovered over the past several years, there are a few that still remain unsolved in 2023.

Barone is currently working on Haunted Chocolatier, which will not be a direct sequel to Stardew Valley but may share some elements with its predecessor. Perhaps some of these unsolved mysteries will be answered in Barone's next title. Alternately, some answers may be revealed in future Stardew updates, while others may remain unsolved. It's even possible that the answers are hidden somewhere in the game, as Barone has confirmed that some undiscovered Stardew secrets still remain.

The Strange Capsule's Alien Contents

Stardew Valley Strange Capsule

The Strange Capsule is one of Stardew Valley's rarest events, although its frequency was increased in the 1.5 content update. Sometimes, a strange sound will be heard in the night, and players will wake up to find a goo-filled mechanical-looking capsule somewhere on their farm. The Strange Capsule can be moved using a Pickaxe should players want to relocate it.

After a few days, the Capsule will shatter, and the goo inside will disappear. From then on, a featureless black creature with long, spindly limbs can sometimes be glimpsed scuttling around the Valley at night. Fans theorize that this creature is an alien of some kind who was birthed from the capsule, but its true nature has not yet been confirmed and is currently considered a Stardew Valley easter egg.

The Visitor To The Docks

Stardew Valley Krobus Docks

The Docks are an important location in Stardew Valley, as they are a great place to catch many ocean-dwelling fish, catch a boat to Ginger Island, and buy fishing supplies from Willy. When players visit the Docks, there is a very rare event that has a slight chance of occurring where a bright green head will peek above the water. Dubbed "the Sea Monster" by players, this creature can appear at any time, although it is slightly more likely to show up at night.

An update adding more Friendship Events for Stardew Valley's shadow person Krobus revealed that Krobus sometimes hangs out at the Docks and is apparently friends with the Sea Monster. However, this event did not reveal any more information about the creature's identity or origins. It is possible that the Sea Monster or its ilk might show up in Haunted Chocolatier, which is confirmed to have a larger focus on supernatural creatures.

Abigail's True Father

Stardew Valley Abigails Room

Unlike the other mysteries, Abigail's parentage will probably never be explicitly confirmed, as ConcernedApe seems to enjoy leaving it up in the air. While Abigail in Stardew Valley is supposedly the daughter of Pierre and Caroline, she has purple hair, enjoys magic and the supernatural, and can sometimes be found hanging out by the Wizard's tower. This has led many players to suspect that she is the product of an affair, and the Wizard is her true father. Further contributing to this idea is Abigail's enjoyment of eating rocks, which started out as an error but was left in the game because Barone (and the players) found it humorous.

It is possible that some of these Stardew Valley mysteries will be solved in later updates - but some of them may remain secrets forever. Stardew Valley is a magical place filled with mermaids, dwarves, forest spirits, and more, so it's not surprising that this gorgeous Valley has a few secrets that are beyond a simple farmer's comprehension. However, there is still some hope that Haunted Chocolatier may provide some answers when it finally debuts.

Stardew Valley is currently available for Android, iOS, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One.
