One of the most important fish in the game is the sturgeon. It's a fish that has several uses in both bundles and recipes. Moreover, the sturgeon isn't available all year round, which means finding the right time and right location is key. Here's how to catch one and how to best use it.

Sturgeon is exclusively caught in the mountain lake, which is the large body of water found just in front of the entrance to the mines. Access the small islands by walking down the wooden planks and start fishing during the correct time of the day and season to catch a sturgeon. Its movement is a mixed type, with a difficulty rating of 78, so players without a decent fishing skill will struggle.

Before using the sturgeon for just crafting, however, it's actually better to keep it. Especially early on in the game, the sturgeon is an incredibly important item, because it's used in the Lake Fish Bundle at the Community Center's fish tank. Make sure to save one for that bundle during the first summer of Stardew Valley.

Alternatively, sturgeon makes for a fantastic fish to add into the fish pond, if has it been unlocked and built at their farm. Place one sturgeon inside the fish pond to start breeding them. The pond will then produce sturgeon roe, which when placed into a Preserves Jar, will produce Caviar, one of the finest artisan goods in the game.

Caviar is also used in a late-game Missing Bundle once the JojaMart is abandoned. Its regular selling price is 500 gold, but with the Artisan profession unlocked the price is bumped to 700 gold per jar.

Finally, some niche uses for sturgeon include gifting it to villagers who like it, as well as using it in tailoring. Place the sturgeon into the Sewing Machine, and it will create a Fishing Vest clothing item.

Most villagers won't like sturgeon, but Willy, the town's fisherman, absolutely loves it. So, save it for his next birthday and give him a nice surprise. Avoid giving a sturgeon to Evelyn, Pierre, or Haley, as they absolutely hate it as a gift.
