Stone Age Stardew Valley-like game Roots of Pacha has officially revealed the release date for the Switch and PlayStation versions of the game. The farming simulation game from developer Soda Den takes a unique spin on the genre, whisking players back to the Stone Age to befriend creatures like woolly mammoths and wild boars. Alongside Roots of Pacha's release on Steam earlier this year, Soda Den also confirmed the game would be coming to consoles at a later date. Now, the developer has revealed when console players can join in the Stone Age fun.

Roots of Pacha's launch saw a rocky start for the game with developer Soda Den dealing with a dispute with then-publisher Crytivo. Conflicts over the rights to the farming sim were at the core of the divide between the two Roots of Pacha studios, with Soda Den and Crytivo working together on the game for several years. Crytivo would ultimately part ways with Soda Den, leaving the Roots of Pacha developer taking on the role of publisher for the newly-released game. Now, Soda Den's next step for the game will see the Stone Age farming sim brought to Switch and PlayStation.

When is Roots of Pacha Releasing on Switch and PlayStation?

  • November 28, 2023

Roots of Pacha's first major post-launch update is expected to add a plethora of new content to the farming sim. A developer post shared to the game's Steam page shows off a new animal for players to tame with the Aurochs, as well as a new romanceable character. The friend system will be receiving an update with NPCs sometimes sending gifts to players who have increased their friendship level. Roots of Pacha will also add mushroom growing and meat gathering as new features with the update.

Roots of Pacha joins a plethora of other games looking to capitalize on the massive popularity of the farming sim genre. Games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon have helped to popularize the genre, inspiring recent games like Ova Magica and the upcoming Fae Farm. JRPG juggernaut Square-Enix would even give its own take on a farming sim, crossing farming with RPGs with last year's Harvestella. Roots of Pacha will bring its unique spin on the farming genre to consoles when the PlayStation and Switch versions debut in November.

Roots of Pacha is available now for PC with Switch, PS4, and PS5 versions releasing on November 28.
