The Stardew Valley Meteorite Event, Explained

the meteorite event message in stardew valley.

In Stardew Valley, the Meteorite explosion is a random event during which a meteor hits your farm. The chances of witnessing this event are 1% per year, provided that your farm has at least one 2x2 block of free space.

You will be informed of the incident the night before when you hear an outburst and the following text appears on the screen: “An explosion was heard in the night…”. The following day, you must investigate your farm for signs of a meteor crash. Look for a purplish boulder covered in red particles.

The impact will destroy nearby crops, trees, paths, and decorations . However, it won’t damage buildings, pets, and animals.

How to Trigger Meteors

The Meteorite in Stardew Valley

You cannot trigger a Meteorite event as it’s an RNG-based incident. However, to increase the odds of encountering meteors, follow these instructions:

  • Have a 3x3 open area on your farm.
  • Drain this area of water.
  • Don’t build immovable structures or buildings here.
  • Move farm animals away from this location.

When the game decides to spawn a Meteorite, it first looks for an empty space on your farm. Then, it investigates candid areas for water, structure, and animals. If there is no clear land on your ranch, it will skip the event altogether.

There is no limit on how many Meteorites can hit your farm in the same save file. However, you will never be hit by two meteors in the same year.

How to Break Meteorites

To break Meteorites, you must hit them with a Gold or Iridium Pickaxe. Only an upgraded tool can shatter fallen comets, and any attempt with workarounds like bombs is doomed to fail.

Here’s what’s inside a meteor:

  • 6 Iridium Ores
  • 6 Stones
  • 2 Geodes

As of the game’s 1.5 version, the Meteorite’s loot is consistent each year (No RNG is involved in the drops.).

Best Way to Use Meteorites

Stardew Valley Iridium Krobus

Breaking a Meteorite gives you Iridium, Stone, and Geode. However, the loot is not worth it. An ideal way to use this rare object is by turning it into a decoration. Build a fence around your meteor and plant some giant crops nearby to create an eerie and unique look.
