In addition to various activities like farming and mining, the Stardew Valley features plenty of special events that make the game more interactive and engaging. From seasonal festivals to birthday celebrations, players can participate in numerous fun activities with the townsfolk every month and build relationships that come in handy at various occasions in the game.
Before any Festival begins in Stardew Valley, Mayor Lewis sends the players a letter in advance, informing them about the date and location of the festival. While attending these festivals is entirely optional for players, they offer a fun way to increase Friendship points with every villager in Pelican Town. Two festivals that take place in the Summer are The Luau Festival and the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies. This guide aims to shed light on how to make the most out of Luau festival in Stardew Valley.
The Luau Festival
The Luau is a Hawaiian-themed festival celebrated on 11th of Summer every year. It takes place from 9 am to 2 pm on Pelican Town’s Beach. Players have plenty of time to water the crops and feed their animals before attending the festival. They need to arrive at the beach before 2 pm, or else they will end up missing out on the festivities. Like with most in-game festivals, players will be returned to their farm at 10 pm after the Luau has ended.
On the festival day, all homes and shops in Stardew Valley are “locked” and can not be entered. During the Luau, Pierre sets up a booth where he sells limited items. Players can buy these items from him.

Wall Palm | 1,000 g |

The Potluck Soup at Luau Festival
At the heart of the Luau festival lies the communal potluck soup, made from ingredients contributed by the villagers. The players can also choose an ingredient to add to the soup. Only uncookedand edible items can be added to the potluck. The Governor attends Luau and rates the soup. This is why Mayor Lewis urges players to use high-quality ingredients.
The Governors' Reaction is determined by three factors:
- Ingredients quality (normal/silver/gold/iridium)
- The base selling price of the item
- The edibility (healing effect) of the item
Depending on which item players add to the soup, the Governor gives seven different responses. Based on his feedback, players will either attain or lose friendship points with the residents of Pelican Town. Here are the 7 responses and their impact on relationship with villagers.
Responses | Effect on Relationship |
---|---|
Best | +120 Friendship Points |
Good | +60 Friendship Points |
Neutral | No effect |

Bad | -50 Friendship Points |
Worst | -100 Friendship Points |

The Secret Response
To get the secret response from the Governor, players must add Mayor Lewis’ lucky shorts to the soup. On the 3rd of Summer, the Mayor sends a letter requesting players to help find his shorts. They are located in Marnie’s bedroom. Players can wait for the Festival while keeping those shorts and prank the Mayor.
This prank results in the Mayor being outraged, but it doesn’t affect friendship with any villagers (including Mayor Lewis).
The Luau Festival ends automatically after the Governor is done tasting the soup. It’s advisable that players only add their item to the soup when they have finished speaking with all the villagers.
Stardew Valley is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
