Stardew Valley offers players a delightful escape into the world of farm life, complete with a vibrant cast of characters to engage with. Building friendships with the townsfolk is a gradual but rewarding process. It opens doors to countless opportunities and enhances the player’s immersion in this already captivating virtual world.

In Stardew Valley, one of the initial quests players encounter urges them to befriend the residents of Pelican Town. This quest is aptly named “How to Win Friends.” Players can deepen their friendships with the villagers by talking to them every day, completing an item delivery quest, or spoiling them with their favorite gifts.

How to Win Friends Quest Guide

Unlocked when players complete the “Introductions” quest, the new story quest “How to Win Friends” proves to be quite easy. The quest text states that giving gifts is a great way to build friendships with the townsfolk. To fulfill this quest, players need to give anyone in the Valley a gift.

Gift-giving is a major way to earn Friendship Points in Stardew Valley. Pelican Town features over 30 non-playing characters (NPCs) to whom players can give gifts. It’s important to keep in mind that each villager has unique likes and dislikes. These preferences directly influence the number of friendship points players gain or lose.

Every villager’s friendship score is represented by a ten-heart meter where each heart is 250 friendship points. If a player's friendship with a villager has reached a minimum of 1 heart, that villager may occasionally initiate a conversation about a gift that is either loved or hated by one of their family members or friends.

As this quest simply requires players to give anyone a gift, the gift can be anything, as long as it’s not a Universally Disliked or Hated item. A decent choice would be the Daffodil. It is a traditional Spring flower that makes a nice gift for villagers, although Jodi hates them.

Players can give each villager a maximum of 2 gifts per week and an additional one on their birthday. Gifts given on an NPC’s birthday multiply their friendship points by 8.

Rewards

For completing the “How to Win Friends” story quest, players are rewarded with 100 gold coins. To collect the reward, players need to open their in-game Journal. This can be done by either pressing F on the keyboard or by clicking the (!) below the total amount of gold in the HUD.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
