The map of Stardew Valley features tons of unique areas for players to explore, each with its own alluring charm. Amidst the serene beauty of Pelican Town, a discreet sewer cover conceals a passage to an intriguing world hidden beneath the surface.

The Sewers running below Stardew Valley can be accessed through two entrances: the sewer cover situated in the south of Pelican Town or the southern gates of Cindersap Forest. However, to explore the hidden mysteries, players first need to unlock the Sewers. This comprehensive guide covers the process of unlocking the Sewers and reveals the secrets it contains.

How to Unlock The Sewers

Sewers Stardew Valley

To unlock the Sewers, players need a "Rusty Key," which can be obtained from Gunther once the player has donated 60 items to the Museum.

Players can contribute various Artifacts and Minerals to expand the museum's collection. In total, there are 95 items that can be donated to the museum, comprising 53 Minerals and 42 Artifacts. Artifacts are often hidden in Artifact spots around the Valley, while Minerals can be acquired by mining, killing monsters, and breaking open different kinds of Geodes.

If players are unsure whether an item can be donated to the Museum, they can check its description in the Inventory, where it will state: "Gunther can tell you more about this if you donate it to the Museum."

Once the Rusty Key is acquired, it can be found in the Wallet on the Skills tab within the Main Menu. Players can use it to unlock the Sewers.

Things to Do in The Sewers

The Sewers give off an eerie ambiance, with dim lighting casting a greenish tint and creating an otherworldly atmosphere. This stark contrast to the Valley’s sunny and picturesque beauty adds an element of intrigue and mystery. As players venture into the shadowy depths of the Sewers, they can do the following things.

Fishing

While it may be surprising to go fishing in the stagnant water of the Sewers in Stardew Valley, it’s the only place where players can catch Mutant Carp and Radioactive Carp. Each time they enter the Sewers, there is a 10% chance for players to reel in a Mutant Carp, which happens to be one of the five Legendary Fish in the game.

  • The Radioactive Carp, one of the five Legendary Fish II, can only be caught when Mr. Qi’s Extended Family Quest is active.
  • In addition to these unique catches, players can find Carp, White Algae, Green Algae, and pieces of Trash in the Sewers.

Statue of Uncertainty

Statue of Uncertainty Stardew Valley

The Statue of Uncertainty allows players to change their in-game professions. As players level up in different Skills, they have the flexibility to specialize in specific aspects of their farm life.

If players are unsure about their selected profession, they can opt for a change by donating 10,000 gold to the Statue. The Statue allows the player to choose one Skill to change.

Any existing Profession Bonuses will disappear as soon as that profession is changed at the Statue of Uncertainty.

Mutant Bug Lair

As players progress through the game, they’ll encounter an intriguing quest, named the “Dark Talisman.” This quest unlocks an underground chamber known as the Mutant Bug Lair. It is located in the northwest corner of the Sewers. To access this mysterious area, players need to speak to Krobus while the quest is active.

The Mutant Bug Lair is crawling with strange, mutated monsters – namely the Mutant Grubs and Mutant Flies. As such, players should be armed with weapons and ready for combat.

Additionally, players can catch a unique fish known as “The Slimejack” by fishing in the shallow, green waters of the Mutant Bug Lair. This fish is available year-round but is difficult for players to catch due to the constant attacks from the mutant bugs.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
