Stardew Valley players need not fear being locked into a Profession — they can be changed fairly easily. By unlocking the Sewers, the player will gain access to the Statue of Uncertainty. This strange shrine allows them to change Professions as often as they'd like, for a price, of course.

It can be beneficial to change Professions often. For example, if the player plans to do some farm building construction, it can be helpful to temporarily trade in their Gatherer and Botanist Professions from the Foraging skill tree for Forester and Lumberjack. With these Professions, they'll gather much more wood and hardwood. Then, when they're finished, they can just switch back! There are many ways to use this ability to swap, so read on to see how to use the Statue of Uncertainty.

How To Change Professions In Stardew Valley

Inside the Sewers, the Statue of Uncertainty can be found on the left side, across from Krobus's shop.

Here's how it works:

  • Donate 10,000g
  • Choose which skill you want to change Professions in
  • Wait until night when you go to bed to pass time to the next day
  • The game will prompt you to choose new Professions for Level 5 and Level 10, if reached

If the player is hoping to change their Level 10 Profession, they'll need to select the Level 5 Profession as well. The whole branch is reset, not just the Level 10 skill.

This process can be done as often as the player would like, provided they have the financial means to keep paying for the change. Unfortunately, the moment the skill is reset at the Statue of Uncertainty, all Profession bonuses immediately disappear.

How to Unlock the Sewers

Sewers Stardew Valley

If the player needs to visit the Statue of Uncertainty but hasn't unlocked the Sewers yet, this portion will explain how to.

This special area can only be unlocked with the Rusty Key. To obtain this key, donate 60 items to the town Museum. This can be any combination of artifacts and minerals, so long as the number reaches 60. At this point, Gunther will hand over the Rusty Key.

The Sewers can then be accessed from the door in town, just south of the main square, or through the grate at the south end of Cindersap Forest.
