As the sun rises over the picturesque farm in Stardew Valley and players begin another day of planting, mining, and getting to know the townsfolk, a steaming cup of coffee in hand is the ultimate companion.

For a convenient option, players can purchase a deliciously aromatic cup of Coffee from the Stardrop Saloon for 300 gold. Coffee may occasionally be found in Supply Crates on the Beach Farm or at the Night Market for free, but there’s simply quite nothing like the satisfaction of brewing one’s own coffee. This guide covers everything players need to know about making Coffee from scratch in Stardew Valley.

Coffee is a popular and widely consumed beverage prepared from roasted Coffee Beans. It is known for its distinct and rich flavor as well as its stimulating effects due to its caffeine content. The process of brewing coffee in Stardew Valley is quite simple; players only need 5 Coffee Beans and a Keg.

How to Get Coffee Beans

Coffee Beans are plantable seeds that grow into a Coffee plant. Unfortunately, Coffee Beans cannot be purchased from any of the stores in Stardew Valley; their primary source is Dust Sprite, an enemy found on the Frozen floors (41 to 79) of the Mines.

Dust Sprites are small creatures that travel in packs and have a 1% chance of dropping Coffee Beans when killed.

Monsters have a 25% chance to drop Coffee when killed if players are wearing a Hot Java Ring .

Additionally, players can purchase Coffee Beans from the Traveling Cart. There is a 25% chance for the beans to appear in the Cart’s Special Stock, costing 2,500 gold. They are also available in the Standard Stock, with prices ranging from 100 to 1,000 gold.

Coffee Beans are a multi-seasonal crop that can be grown in both Spring and Summer. When planted, Coffee Beans take ten days to fully mature. Players can harvest four beans from mature plants every two days. Using Fertilizers can speed up the growth of the first bean in every harvest.

Normal10 days

Deluxe Speed-Gro25%8 days
Hyper Speed-Gro33%7 days

Regardless of its growth stage, a Coffee Bean plant continues growing from the 28th of Spring to the 1st of Summer without interruptions. Any fertilizer used will remain in its place when Summer arrives.

How to Brew Coffee in Kegs

kegs in stardew valley

Kegs are essential for turning Coffee Beans into Coffee in Stardew Valley. The crafting recipe for Kegs becomes available when players achieve Farming Level 8. The required materials are 1 Oak Resin, 1 Copper Bar, 1 Iron Bar, and 30 pieces of Wood. Players can also acquire Kegs by completing either the Artisan or the Brewer's Bundles in the Pantry.

To brew one cup of Coffee, players need to place 5 Coffee Beans from their Inventory inside a Keg. All 5 beans must be of the same quality (normal, silver, or gold). The Keg will not process beans that are not in a single stack of 5. It takes 120 minutes (approximately 2 in-game hours) for Coffee Beans to be turned into Coffee inside a Keg.

Unlike all other Keg products, Coffee is not categorized as an Artisan Good . Therefore, the Artisan Profession does not influence the sale price of Coffee.

Using the Coffee Maker

A Coffee Maker automatically brews a fresh cup of coffee every morning. Players can receive this equipment in the Mail after completing Evelyn's Special Order, 'Gifts for George.'

Players have 28 days to complete this quest, during which they need to collect 12 Leeks and place them on the stove in Evelyn's house. On completing it successfully, players are rewarded with 2,000 gold, a special cutscene, and the Coffee Maker. It is a fantastic way to get free Coffee since it doesn’t require any coffee beans.

Uses of Coffee

Coffee provides some valuable temporary buffs. When players consume a cup of coffee, their character’s Speed is boosted by 1 point. This buff lasts for 1 minute and 23 seconds. It can be especially useful for farm work, exploring the mines, or just getting around the map more quickly.

Coffee increases the speed of the player’s horse too.

Coffee makes an excellent gift for Harvey, who absolutely loves it. Most of the villagers in town like coffee, apart from Jas and Vincent who hate it.

Additionally, coffee is also used in one cooking recipe. Three cups of Coffee can be combined to make a Triple Shot Espresso. The recipe for this potent coffee can be obtained from Gus at the Stardrop Saloon for 5,000 g. When consumed, the Tripe Shot Espresso replaces the Speed Buff provided by Coffee with a Buff that lasts 4 minutes and 12 seconds.

Alternatively, players can sell Coffee using the Shipping Bin for 150 gold per cup. Unfortunately, it cannot be sold to Pierre’s General Store.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
