In Stardew Valley’s virtual farming universe, trees are valuable natural resources to obtain multiple products such as Wood, Oak Resins, Maple Syrup, Pine Tar, and Saps that can be used for construction and crafting. Whether players are just starting out or experienced, they need trees at every stage in Stardew Valley.

Common trees in Stardew Valley include Oak, Pine, Maple, and Mahogany. A few of these, such as oak and maple trees are available across plenty of locations in Stardew Valley and spawn naturally on the player’s farms at the beginning of the game. Mahogany trees were introduced later in Update 1.5 of Stardew Valley and grow abundantly on Ginger Island, but are a bit harder to plant on the player’s own farm.

How to Get Mahogany Seeds

Traveling back and forth to Ginger Island may seem like a hassle which is why players are better off planting their own Mahogany Trees for an easy supply of Hardwood and Sap . These seeds stand out from other trees and saplings due to their distinctive orange-yellow hue and oblong shape.

Acquiring Mahogany Seed in the game is a straightforward process, provided players follow the right approach. Here's a look at five different ways through which players can find Mahogany seeds in Stardew Valley.

From Fully-Matured Mahogany Trees

Ginger Island in Stardew Valley

Mahogany trees can be found in the north area of the beach on Ginger Island, and west to the Island’s farmhouse. These can be chopped down and used to plant Mahogany Trees on the player’s own farm. By chopping down or shaking fully-grown Mahogany trees, players have a chance of collecting Mahogany seeds. This is the best way to acquire Mahogany seeds.

Additionally, grown Mahogany Trees will scatter their seeds around them. Players have the option to excavate any partially buried Mahogany Seeds using either their Axe or Pickaxe.

By Chopping Large Stumps

Stumps are the remains left after chopping down a grown tree. They can be found on the farm, within the Secret Woods, or in the Mines. Six stumps are naturally re-spawned every day in the Secret Woods. Players can use a copper axe or a better to chop large stumps.

Chopping down stumps has a 10% chance of dropping Mahogany seeds and yields 2 pieces of Hardwood.

By Defeating Slimes

The Secret Woods are crawling with clusters of Slimes, providing players with opportunities for combat and the defeat of these small monsters. Once defeated, Slimes yield a variety of items. Just like stumps, Slimes respawn in the Secret Woods every day in Stardew Valley.

Slimes have a 10% chance of dropping Mahogany seeds.

By Cracking Golden Coconuts

Golden Coconuts are rare geode-like items that are found around Ginger Island. These are usually filled with seeds. Players can collect them and bring them over to Clint – who can crack one open for 25g.

Golden Coconuts have a one in seven chance of containing Mahogany Seeds.

From the Island Trader

For those who prefer not to invest time in seed hunting in Stardew Valley, an alternative option is to buy Mahogany Seeds from the Island Trader on Ginger Island. These seeds are obtainable in exchange for one Stingray from the Trader.

However, it's worth noting that this unique vendor may not be accessible right away upon reaching Ginger Island. Players must first unlock the farmhouse on the Island, which costs 20 Gold Walnuts, and the Island Trader, which requires another 10 Gold Walnuts.

Players are advised to forage for Mahogany Seeds, rather than purchasing them, as it is an easier and effective way to get the seeds.

How to Grow Mahogany Trees

Once players have found and collected Mahogany Seeds, the next step is to plant them. Mahogany Trees have 5 Growth Stages. Unlike various other trees in Stardew Valley, they grow independent of the Seasons and don’t require frequent watering.

However, their growth rate can vary a bit. Growing Mahogany Trees using unfertilized seeds can take quite some time. To speed up the process, players can use the Tree Fertilizer. This fertilizer grants Mahogany Trees a 60% probability of advancing to the next growth stage each night, as opposed to the meager 15% chance they have without the fertilizer. While unfertilized Mahogany trees take approximately 26±12 days to mature, those treated with fertilizer can reach maturity in just 7±2 days.

Advantages of Mahogany Trees in Stardew Valley

In the world of Stardew Valley, Hardwood is a precious resource that can be hard to come by. A fully-grown Mahogany tree (Stage 5) yields 8 to 13 pieces of Hardwood when chopped down.

Additionally, these trees can be tapped with a Normal or Heavy Tapper to extract valuable sap. Sap plays an important role in various crafting recipes to create fertilizers, torches, and different kinds of fishing bobbers.

Considering the rarity and usefulness of these two resources, the effort put into finding Mahogany tree seeds and cultivating them is undeniably worthwhile.

Stardew Valley is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
