With the Version 1.6 update in Stardew Valley, there are many new fish and items to catch in the sea and rivers. As you get these new fish, you'll be able to create new gadgets such as the Fish Smoker, or complete some quests for Fish Ponds that require the item.

The new category you'll find are Jellies, and Sea Jellies in particular will be one of the easier ones to find as you introduce yourself to the new category of fish. Though they are a rare catch, there are a few ways you can more easily catch a Sea Jelly to add to your collection.

Where to Find Sea Jelly in Stardew Valley

As with most fish in Stardew Valley, there are certain locations where you can find Sea Jellies. To get this rare species, you'll want to visit the beach in Pelican Town, and fish anywhere in the ocean. There is no specific location in the ocean where it can be found, so you can choose to fish near Willy's shop, or away from the docks.

This is the only spot they can be found, so you won't come across one if you take a visit to any rivers or lakes. Keep in mind that Sea Jellies are incredibly rare as well, so it will take quite a bit of fishing before one hooks onto your fishing rod.

How to Catch Sea Jelly in Stardew Valley

Now that you know the exact area where you can catch a Sea Jelly, you'll want to come up prepared with a few items to make your fishing trip easier. Here are a few baits and tackles we recommend attaching to your fishing rod:

  • Bait: Regular Bait or Deluxe Bait
  • Tackle: Dressed Spinner

Deluxe Bait is an upgraded version of Bait that makes fish bite even faster, and will increase the size of your fishing bar. If you'd rather purchase regular Bait from Willy since its cheaper, this will also do the trick. However, the best tackle that you should have is the Dressed Spinner, which you can get from Willy for 1000 Gold. This item will increase the bite-rate while fishing, and will more likely attract the rare jelly in the ocean.

Another method you can use to get yourself a Sea Jelly faster is by looking for the bubbling spots in the water. These areas have a much higher bite-rate, and will have more uncommon fish available. You can check around the whole ocean to see if you spot one, and if you don't, they often refresh and will appear later.

How to Use Sea Jelly in Stardew Valley

Sea Jellies are a versatile item that can be used for more than just selling. Whenever you get your hands on one, here are all the things you can use it for:

  • Selling for 125 g (Cannot be sold to Willy)
  • Used in the recipe for a Fish Smoker (10x Hardwood, 1x Sea Jelly, 1x River Jelly, 1x Cave Jelly)
  • Used in a Fish Pond quest for Flounder to increase the amount of fish from 5 to 10

If you choose to sell some of the Sea Jellies you've caught, keep in mind that you'll only be able to do so through the Shipping Bin, as Willy will not take them since they aren't technically considered a fish. The best way to utilize a Sea Jelly is to use it to make a Fish Smoker, a new item that can be crafted in the update, and will smoke any fish you put inside and double its sell value.
