  • Golden Walnuts can be used to pay the parrots on Ginger Island for access to new areas and valuable items in Mr. Qi's Walnut Room.

Golden Walnuts are an unusual aspect of Stardew Valley's currency system, but thankfully they are not too difficult to understand. While they don't work the same way that the money players will collect from their farmwork does, they have their own uses that make them worth seeking out. However, being a more specialized currency, Golden Walnuts are more difficult to seek out for Stardew Valley players who don't know what to do. Once one knows what to look for though, the process is much easier. After that, the player can really enjoy the rewards that they can bring.

Players who are starting a new game in Stardew Valley will not have to worry about Golden Walnuts for a while. Early on, the main focus will be on planting crops, building relationships, and trying to complete the community center bundles. In fact, players can't find a single Golden Walnut until either the community center is built, or JojaMart's new warehouse has been built. For that reason, they could be considered to be postgame content in a way, because the game's main conflict will already be solved by that point. Once the player can find Golden Walnuts, though, they will prove to be useful.

Stardew Valley's Golden Walnuts Are Key to Experiencing Ginger Island

Ginger Island in Stardew Valley

Players will be able to find Golden Walnuts by going to Stardew Valley's Ginger Island after repairing WIlly's boat. Once there, players will find Golden Walnuts through a variety of methods. Some are in bushes that the player will have to find, some are hidden in various parts of the map, and some require players to perform specific actions in certain places to earn the walnuts. Thankfully, players will not be completely in the dark when it comes to finding the walnuts, because the parrot that lives in Leo's hut will offer hints to the player, although they have to decipher them themselves.

Once the player has found some walnuts, they can use them to pay Stardew Valley's Ginger Island parrots, all of whom offer services in exchange for a certain amount of Golden Walnuts. For the most part, they will grant the player access to new parts of the island or open more convenient pathways. Most notably, the parrots can grant the player access to the Island Farm, giving them more farming space as well as the beach resort that the other villagers can visit. Players who want to experience what Ginger Island has to offer will need to find a lot of Golden Walnuts to see it all.

The best reward involving Golden Walnuts is Mr. Qi's Walnut Room, where players can exchange Stardew Valley's Qi gems in exchange for rare and valuable items. Most of the items that he sells can only be found in the Walnut Room, but a lot of them have truly remarkable effects. For example, the Horse Flute lets the player summon their horse anywhere on the map, and Pierre's Missng Stocklist lets players buy any of Pierre's seeds no matter what the season. The caveat is that the player needs to find 100 of the game's 130 Golden Walnuts to access the room, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

Golden Walnuts can be tough to find, but players who are seeking perfection in Stardew Valley will need to take on the task at some point. Even beyond that, the walnuts are required for players to access all of Ginger Island, so it's in a player's best interest to seek them out regardless. It can admittedly take some time before a player becomes adapt at seeking out the Golden Walnuts. However, to see all that Stardew Valley has to offer, it's in players' best interest to head to Ginger Island and find them as soon as they can.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One.
