Beneath the peaceful facade of Pelican Town lies a deep, adventure-filled Mine that is waiting to be explored. How to Complete the “Explore the Mines” Story Quest

5th floor of mines in stardew valley

After the 5th of Spring, players gain access to the Mines. Upon entering the Mines, a cut scene is triggered where Marlon gives the players a Rusty Sword and the “Explore The Mines” quest commences. Marlon is an NPC who instructs the players to descend into the Mines for exploration, while also hinting that it might be quite dangerous.

To complete this quest, players are required to reach Level 5 of the Mines. The Mines consist of 120 levels (sometimes referred to as floors). The floors are divided into three sections of 40 levels, each with its own distinctive theme. The main themes in the Mines are ‘The Brown Earth’, ‘The Frozen Earth’, and ‘The Lava, Purple Earth’.

To progress through the Mine levels, players need to find the ladder. A ladder on each floor is revealed after players break rocks or defeat enemies with their swords. If a level is completely infested by monsters, all enemies must be killed on that level before a ladder will appear. Since it is randomly generated, the ladder can be found anywhere on the floor.

For every monster the player defeats, there is a 15% chance of spawning a ladder randomly. While every rock destroyed only has a 2% chance to spawn a ladder.

Killing enemies in the Mines is the best option for finding ladders, as it consumes minimal stamina.

Once a player reaches level 5, their progress will be automatically saved and an elevator will be unlocked. Players can use the elevator to quickly reach this floor on their next visit to the Mines.

In the Mines, the progress is saved every 5 levels.

Alternatively, Players can also craft a Staircase to instantly create a ladder that lets them move down one floor in The Mines. However, this cannot be placed on levels 0 or 120 of the Mines. Each staircase only works for a single use. Players can obtain the crafting recipe for a Staircase when they reach Mining Level 2.
