A Stardew Valley player has seriously impressed fellow fans by earning a million gold without ever stepping foot off their farm. The impressive feat is just one example of how Stardew Valley players create self-imposed challenges for themselves with the tools at hand within the open-ended game.

Stardew Valley usually encourages the player to engage in a variety of activities on and off the farm they inherit from their grandfather. Players are welcome to roam the town, make friends with the citizens of Stardew Valley, and engage in additional activities that require leaving the farm, like mining in the caves or fishing. However, just because those opportunities are available doesn't mean a player has to ever participate, as shown in this example.

Stardew Valley player hiimdbn took to the game's subreddit to share some images of their farm and to talk about their impressive feat of earning a million gold without leaving home. It wasn't an easy or short effort, as hiimdbn spent seven years on the farm in order to achieve this goal. However, by choosing the Four Corners farm, the player was able to access a wide variety of methods of earning money and making new items.

According to hiimdbn's explanation, they spent the vast majority of their time making money solely off of Stardew Valley mixed seeds. On the Four Corners farm, unique weeds drop mixed seeds, so cutting them down allowed the player to plant those seeds and gain one of several random crops, depending on the season. A small portion of the farm has rocks that players can mine for ore, which gradually led to the development of sprinklers, helping to speed up tending to crops. Over the course of five years in-game, they earned about 700k in gold through random crops. After that, they were able to start mining gold, which allowed them to develop a seed machine, which let them get new seeds of whatever crop they put in it, speeding up the earning process tremendously.

While the Four Corners farm lends itself extremely well to this purpose, there are some disadvantages to never leaving the farm. While the farm has a pond, for example, the player never left the farm to meet Willy, so they never got a fishing rod. Fishing can be very lucrative in Stardew Valley, but this restriction means that was off the table. The inability to upgrade tools was likely also a huge hassle. In the end, the effort took hiimdbn nearly 40 hours to pull this off, so players looking to take on a similar challenge should plan on setting aside quite a bit of time.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
