Mining in Stardew Valley is an exciting blend of resource gathering, combat challenges, and quest-driven exploration. It allows players to explore the underground world and discover hidden treasures, such as the Dwarf Scrolls.

Located in the north area of the Mountains, the Mines are initially blocked by rock debris. Players can set out to explore Pelican Town’s old mine shaft after Spring 5, Year 1. Several Story Quests in the game are linked to the Mines, one of them being the “Deeper in the Mines” quest. These quests are an integral part of Stardew Valley and allow players to uncover the secrets hidden beneath the surface.

How to Complete the “Deeper in the Mines” Story Quest

When players reach Level 5 of the Mines and complete the “Explore the Mine” quest, another Story Quest triggers encouraging players to venture deeper. The “Deeper in the Mine” quest text states that the mini elevator is still functional, and it allows players to quickly return to any elevator doors they’ve discovered.

Elevators are available every 5 floors. This means that levels ending in 0 or 5 will have an elevator door, which serves as a checkpoint allowing quick access to deeper levels at any time. To complete the “Deeper in the Mines” story quest, players are required to reach Level 40 of the Mines.

To advance deeper into the Mines, players must break rocks and defeat all sorts of creepy monsters crawling around. Doing so automatically spawns a ladder which players can use to move down a floor in the Mines. Rocks can be mined using a Pickaxe and only have a base chance of 2% to spawn a ladder. They are a great source of Stone and various kinds of Ores and Geodes.

On the other hand, each monster killed has a 15% chance to randomly spawn a ladder. Players may encounter the following enemies on their way to Level 40 of the Mines:

  • Green Slimes
  • Duggies
  • Bugs
  • Rock Crabs
  • Grubs
  • Cave Flies
  • Bats
  • Stone Golems

A player’s progress is saved every 5 levels in the Mines.

Alternatively, players who have reached Mining Level 2 can craft a Staircase that functions as a ladder, enabling them to move down one level in the Mines. However, a Staircase can only be used once and cannot be placed on levels 0 or 120. To craft a Staircase, players need 99 Stones.

While there is no specific reward for completing the “Deeper in the Mines” quest, players can acquire a Slingshot from the Chest at Level 40 of the Mines. Once players reach Level 40, the graphics transition to a frozen theme. This new section of the Mines is referred to as the "Frozen Earth”.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
