In Stardew Valley, Story Quests are immersive events that revolve around the town’s unique characters. These quests offer players a glimpse into the lives, challenges, and dreams of NPCs. As such, players feel more connected to the townsfolk and can complete these quests to develop deeper friendships with them.
One such NPC in Stardew Valley is Marnie. She is known for her friendly and cheerful demeanor and takes great pride in being the owner of Marnie's Ranch. Marnie is passionate about caring for all the animals in the Valley. Players can get all their farm animals and animal supplies at Marnie’s Ranch.
How to Complete the Cow’s Delight Story Quest
On Fall 3, players receive a letter from Marnie in their Mailbox. The letter informs players that she has requested a single bunch of Amaranths so that she can give her cows a treat. This triggers the “Cow’s Delight” Story Quest.
The Amaranth plant is known for its vibrant colors. It is a purple grain cultivated by an ancient civilization. To grow this vegetable crop, players need Amaranth Seeds. Amaranth Seeds can be purchased at Pierre’s General Store for 70 gold and from JojaMart for 87 gold. They are occasionally available at the Traveling Cart, with prices ranging from 105 to 1,000 gold.
Amaranth Seeds can only be planted in the Fall and take 7 days to grow into a mature plant that yields Amaranth. Players can harvest a bunch of Amaranths by using a Scythe. To harvest the Amaranth, players need to stand near the crop and simply left-click on it while holding the Scythe.
Without the use of fertilizers, players can typically harvest 3 Amaranth crops per season. However, by using the Speed-GroFertilizer the growth of Amaranth speeds up by 10%, allowing players to harvest four crops per season.
With the Agriculturist Profession, all crops grow 10% faster without any fertilizers.
Once players have harvested Amaranths, they can take them over to Marnie. She is at her shop, Marnie’s Ranch from 9 AM to 4 PM every day, except for Mondays and Tuesdays. Marnie can also be found at the Stardrop Saloon after 5 PM.
Rewards
Giving the Amaranth to Marnie completes the “Cow’s Delight” Story Quest. For doing this, players are rewarded with 500 gold via the Journal, and their Friendship with Marnie increases with 1 Heart.
